I know you've said you had all pulleys checked, but my thinking here is possible alternator bearing or internals. Reason I say that is normally the rev counter feed is taken off the alternator. If the alternator is rough and the tacho dance coincides with the noise, then it's a possible.

Yes I too changed my gearbox oil and it's still there although I'm convinced its gearbox related did find a forum that mentioned software problems on the early ones mine is 2005 doesn't do it on motorway only round town!!!!

Um, the engine speed is read from the crank speed sensor

Thats fair enough, I wasn't aware the RRS took the feed from there. A lot of vehicles use a feed from the alternator, certain models of LR included

Right hand turbo is bad ....

Hi there having same problem was thinking it was the talk converter

So I sent the turbo for a full rebuild.
Still the same noise ...
Now I have found the problem : It was a cracked exhaust manifold.
One of the bolts broke inside the engine.
You need to take the engine out of it to reach it for a good repair , it really sucks !!

Hi. No, the noise we are experiencing is that low, u wud struggle to record it.
The strange thing is, it doesn't do it from cold. For example, if I drive up the steep slip road on the way to work, it's perfect. But if I do it 10 minutes later when the engine has warmed up, it's there. Basically what u experience is on acceleration/ loading the engine, there is an almost misfire or hesitation & u can feel it thru the car. Strangely enough, passengers don't notice!
