Key Fob - Not Working After Battery Change

Hi all,

The key fob work intermittently and eventually gave up on me a few months ago. Having forgot about it and used the spare key, I recently took the fob apart and the battery was showing 0.5v. Changed the battery for a brand new one tested 2.99v. Put everything back together and tested. I tested the key fob as follows:

1. Unlocks the car
2. Unlocks the boot (3rd button)
3. Locks the car

The car also starts

However, after locking the car for the last test, no matter which button I press (1, 2 or 3) it ONLY locks the car. Leave it for a while and then it allows to be unlocked as though you can only unlock it once.

Is there some sort of soft reset that needs to be done? Thanks in advance.

Hi, not heard of any reset procedure. It is possible to recode the fob using diagnostic tool but you have to recode both fobs. Assuming your other fob works normally then suggests the spare fob has a problem like a dry joint on the PCB perhaps? Did you replace the battery with the correct rechargeable one (e.g. Panasonic VL 2330)?

You could have the fob tested to see if it is transmitting consistently using a tester such as the one linked here; http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealey-VS921-Key-F...uctDetails

Most specialists have these in their armoury Thumbs Up 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks Paddi - and yes, the other fob works without fault. I replaced like-for-like battery and cleaned the PCB with some cleaner before re-assembling as some components looked to be oxidized. Perhaps it needs some time for them to get to know each other again. I have the ability to re-code them but that would be a last resort at the moment.

There have recently been problems replacing fob batteries with Evoques - the cure for them is to buy replacement batteries from your friendly Land Rover dealer. Every member over on BabyRR who has bought the right style of fob battery from any other supplier has been frustrated by locking problems until they bought another set of batteries from their dealership! Some folks replaced the batteries themselves and others let the accessory dept replace them for them but they never had any issues whichever way they did it with dealership supplied batteries................. one of life's great mysteries, nobody can explain why there isn't a problem when the batteries come from LR! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Have you tried a hard reset? Question

(In case you don't know, hold the battery leads together for a few minutes - obviously with the battery disconnected Wink) Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

NO I haven't - never heard of that one. What does that achieve?

It can achieve many things as it drains the capacitors in the vehicle so the ECUs start up from scratch. It's always worth trying if you're having some odd issue like this. You'll need to reset your clock afterwards. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks - will give that a go.

Also having problems on starting which I suspect may be the battery on its way out. Turning of the key sometimes just makes the instrument panel go dead, then spring back to life and does not turn the engine over.

OK - so I disconnected the battery, connected the +ve and -ve leads together and did the hard reset.

Connected all back up and now I have the opposite! The car will unlock, but the lock button will not work at all...! I may use the key for a while and see if it will 're-learn' itself. Fingers crossed!

Next port of call is a splice in the loom below the passenger sill - it's a common place to cause locking issues. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Hi all - Ive left this for a while but now re-visiting the problem. Can anybody help?

Ive re-programmed the keys, but still no luck. Battery voltage is 1.4V and showing 'low voltage' on the display which is strangely when I get the most functions (unlock and tailgate pop).

Any other time no functions or just lock. Still to try the green wire under the passenger seat, but surely that would affect both keys, were this only affects one?
