Diesel vs Petrol

Looking for some feedback on the TD6 in the 2016 RRS. Any info would be appreciated, but the reason for the question is that I'm concerned about dependability of a diesel vs petrol and if I should expect to get more miles on a diesel than I would on a petrol engine.

Thanks

Yes, you will certainly get more miles out of the diesel, but if I lived in the US I think I'd be buying the petrol... Thumbs Up

(Edit: Just to add, I assumed you meant MPG rather than engine life but re-reading your post I'm not so sure? Question ) Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

I thought LR didn't sell the diesels in the USA because of your emissions laws and the fact that according to LRNA nobody wants to buy a diesel Range Rover over there everybody wants a gasoline engine. I'm not sure about this but is the V6 Supercharged gasoline engine available in the USA RRS's? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

According to the mags I think there selling diesel in the US but with a single turbo as it's easier to hit the emission laws, don't want any VW problems Thumbs Up 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Yes there selling the diesel in the U.S. (first year I think). I've driven both he V6 Petrol and the V6 Diesel and the diesel is much more fun to drive. Something like 440 ft/lbs of torque with the diesel vs 2XX with the petrol.

I'm mostly curious about the durability of the TD6. Not sure if it's proven itself for many years or if it's still somewhat in the early stages.

The 3.0 SDV6/TDV6 in the facelift L320 and L494 is an updated version of the original 2.7 TDV6. It has proved to be a very durable design. Take a look at this thread: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic109883.html Thumbs Up

In various forms it has been in use with Land Rover since the launch of Discovery 3 so that there has been plenty of time to iron out the problems, before LR got to use it it was also planted under the bonnet of millions of Peugoets, Fords and Citroens with a differnt tune and turbo configuration. The same engine has also been under the bonnets of many Jaguar XJ's and XF's and also their predecessors. Land Rover developed into the 3.6ltr and 4.4ltr TDv8 motors too, the main differences over the Ford and PSA versions were changes to the lubrication and breathing to make it more suitable for offroad use, ie it could cross cross slopes and go up and down steep hills and through deep water and in situations that normal cars don't generally go without dying! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
