Does anyone know if LR is planning a 9-speed gearbox to RRS?

Not aware of any 9 speeders with the necessary torque capacity.

But you never know........... MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

After my experience with the ZF 9 speeder in my last car I sincerely hope not. An ECU remap by LR to further improve economy instead ruined the totally seamless shifts, made them jerky and made the car pull away in 1st gear when it should have pulled away in 2nd or even 3rd (in Evoque 1st is a crawler gear for towing and better offroad control), it caused the revs on pull away to soar to 4000 before it would shift up (not great on a cold frosty morning) and then after another update to try and fix those issues it caused the DPF sensor to frequently self destruct. There's nothing like the old maxim "If it ain't broke then don't try to fix it" Mind you I wouldn't now be driving an RRS2 if I hadn't had all the issues I had! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Pretty sure they will introduce a 9 speed box to do away with the hi/low range transfer box.

There is no longitudinal 9-speed gearbox available for Land Rover applications currently on the market. The ZF 9HP transverse gearbox was made possible by some very clever packaging, however this very packaging ruins the driving experience, especially when passing (see: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2014/02/z...he-leash/) and makes this transmission extremely unreliable. There are literally hundreds of Jeeps suffering from this plagues. There's an excellent engineers' look onto this transmission here: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2014/02/u...f-9-speed/ - worth a read if you really want to order one.
Once ZF is ready with a longitudinal 'box with proper torque rating, you'll surely see it in the LR lineup. Point is, the current 8-speed is actually good enough. Regards etc.,

Wojtek

I understand what you say, my experience (and that of quite a few other people) was with the transverse 9 Speed ZF unit which is quite a bit smaller than the previous ZF speeder that I had in my 1st Evoque. Having said that, 75% of both Evoque and Discosport sales are the 9 speed auto and only a handful have ever had any problems. The 'box in my last Evoque was fantastic (better than the 8 speeder for smoothness and slurred shifts) UNTIL LR/ZF fiddled with it. The 9 speeder was smaller /more compact and about 10kg lighter than the six speeder that went before it so from a CO2 / emissions point of view there was a good reason to fit it, it also reduced fuel comsumption notably over my previous Evoque fitted with the six speeder. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
