England 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Please tell me this isn't true....

Has anyone heard about the new car tax proposals the government are talking about?
I saw an article in Autocar magazine that the industry is hitting out against the new proposals.
Proposals are that anything over 255 g/km CO2 will pay £2000 per year!!!

My "little" 2007 2.7 TDV6 is 265 g/km in the book!!!

I'm crapping myself.....surely this can't be allowed?

It's for vehicle registered after April 2017 but it's also ONLY for the first year. After the first year there is a flat rate of £140 for all cars.

First year rate
0 £0 £0
1-50 £10
51-75 £25
76-90 £100
91-100 £120
101-110 £140
111-130 £160
131-150 £200
151-170 £500
171-190 £800
191-225 £1,200
226-255 £1,700
Over 255 £2,000
Cars above £40,000 pay £310 annual supplement for five years

So after the first year the rate is £140 for all cars unless the car new was over £40000 in which case it will carry a £310 excess for 5 years.

I think the Tax for a £40000 car is frankly a bit insulting. It is basically saying, if you can afford nice things we want more money from you.

A three year old car will have the £310pa supplement for the next two years. It'll still be cheaper than my TDV8 is now £505 this year.

It's good old "politics of envy" dressed up a environmentalism. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

England

The government said most people will pay £145 pa on the new system but this will hit almost every LR buyer as most are over £40k Confused

Well done to the government for putting another obstacle in front of a company that employs 1000s and one of the few success stories our economy has had for many years Rolling Eyes

Idiots Evil or Very Mad

Still I have to applaud the stroke of genius to impose an environmental tax in year 1 and a wealth tax for the next 4 years Whistle Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Unfortunately/fortunately the wealthy will not protest in the central London and smash up banks/government buildings to make a point. Charge a wealthy person an extra £300 a year they won't mind. Take £30 a year off a benefits claimant they will bring the house down.
