Yup - doable....

I'm interested to find out how - but keys locked in boot.
- pushed boot close button with keys in boot having placed a couple of bags in there.

I hoped (wrongly) that the car would detect the key and let a door be opened (or unlock the boot).

Alas no.

The problem with being able to unlock the car with the keys inside is that you would never be able to lock the car if you packed a spare key, such as you might do when going on holiday.

Keyless systems like this need to be able to detect not just that the key is present but whether it is inside or outside the car. Mark

There are (I think) 7 key sensors around the car including in the boot to stop this from happening, but do know of it happening to an Evoque so is possible. Probably a combination of location and other stuff forming a black spot.

Good to see that LR assist couldn't get in after a couple of hours trying. 

The not closing and beeping when the key is inside is what normally happens. If, however, the key is in a dead-spot or blocked by other things around it then the boot will shut with the key inside. For the Evoque case I menioned, the car was locked and then the boot opened, the key was in a bag that was put in the now open boot and then the boot closed, and locked.

Happened to us yesterday. Wife opened boot with comfort access and with key in her handbag. She put handbag in the boot with key inside and shut the boot.

Then the car wouldn't open. Luckily only 10 mins from home so no a problem.

But system obviously has a flaw

Whenever our car detects a key inside it won't allow you to lock the car. However it does appear to have a black spot near the back of the boot as the car won't start if the key in my wife's bag at the back. Different car I know, but just my experience.

Not sure what comfort access is.

Comfort access is the BMW keyless system like this. It will not let you put your key in the boot and close it. I know I have tried.

Have not tried on my RRS, sounds like I shouldn't though!!! MY16 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography in Aleutian silver, stealth pack and toys.

If you place the key in the boot and try to shut the boot with the car locked, it does a double beep and re-opens the boot.

However must be a non-detection black spot that my wife found by accident. But it was also in her bag with a mobile phone plus other bags in the boot from a shopping trip.
