2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Rimini Red

Cleaning leather seats

Guys,

I have the standard leather and after our long European adventure I find that I have marks left from a brown leather belt.

Have tried a few products and it won't go.

Any suggestions from products that you may have used? Rob

"This is referred to as dye transfer, unfortunately, it is permanent. BMW's have dyed/coated porous leather and once dye transfer has occured from other products, this includes leather garments, as well as, men's wool suit coats and pants, you will have to have the area redyed. No amount of cleaning will remove the dye transfer without stripping the factory dye job. The cause is poorly manufactured leather/wool garments, that when saturated with moisture from human sweat/body salts, and/or exterior water (ie. rain) will transfer dye as a result of body temperature and sitting/rubbing/abrasive contact." The forum cleaning geek, RRUK, advises the use of Meguiars Leather Cleaner. There is a post on it here, if you search.

Good point, Bobby - sorry, should have reported back on this.

I did use the wipes that Matt suggested and they worked fine for a quick clean up. However, I have since used the Meguiars leather cleaner that RRUK suggested and while it did a splendid job of cleaning the seats I also feel the seats are a little more resistant to dirt transfer now. Beforehand, the seats got dirty very quickly but now it seems the leather is more resistant. I don't know if the Meguiars cleaner has a treatment in it - I know it's based on Aloe and that's meant to be good for the skin (human), so I assume it also has some effect on leather. Dunno, I just used the stuff

So to summarise - wipes useful and effective but Meguiars seems very good in the longer term.

Robbi, what colour are your seats? I've had problems with Alpacca leather (beige) on my D3 HSE with dye transferring from the LR seat covers & fixing permanently. This could be same type of problem. Issue now resolved under warranty.

I have the Alpacca also. Luckily for you a LR product made the stain. Rob
