thanks
I did mine as two separate jobs and must say, each one took me longer than I thought. So do not understimate the time taken if it is your first one. I do believe that If I were to do another now, it would take literally half the time.
I did the rear belt first and in removing the metal water pipe that goes across the vee, I stupidly broke a plastic elbow on the fuel return pipe from the HPFP. That meant a trip to my dealer to get a new one, The all up time for doing the rear belt was about 4 hours.
Separately I did the front belt and that also took four hours. But as I say, familiarity would halve that. If you do not have one, it well worth getting the spanner and holding tool for the viscous fan ( I bought a Sealey tools one) Mind you, the spanner did not fit and I had to grind the jaws out slightly!
I marked the crank position to ensure that it did not move, which it did not. No need to lock it if you are careful, I would suggest. The cam shaft locking pins are essential.
I was most unsure about the cam belt tensioner fixing bolt. It is only an 8mm bolt (13mm spanner size) and is threaded into an alloy housing. I would be more confident if it were stronger, so be careful to torque that one correctly.
Otherwise, it is a large, but perfectly possible job to do. I think somebody at Ford was having a laugh when they placed the HPFP, with a replaceable belt, at the back of the engine though.
