These cars are complex and fussy about maintenance. A new RRS is about £85 grand so the parts for older cars are related to the current car's price. e.g. bloody expensive.

I agree with Daz. My neighbour is a car dealer and seems to enjoy a good reputation. He works from a mobile. Should he pay staff to man a landline? Will you pay more for a car for that facility? No, thought not. You can buy a Skype "landline" that diverts to your mobile for a hundred quid or so a year. Just look at the condition and history of the car. Buy on that basis. Don't agonise over minutiae about the dealer. If you want total 'peace of mind', pay two or three grand more from an LR dealer. If you have the skills to evaluate a decent car with an acceptable history, it matters not who is the middleman unless a personal warranty is an issue. The guy got it from an auction probably, had it valeted, and wants to make a grand on it. His phone number is quite irrelevant. Is it a good car? If so, take a punt. When it breaks down (and it will wherever you get it from) you will pay to fix it if not covered by some kind of warranty. If you own an RRS, paying to fix it quite often is part of the deal. You are not buying German engineering despite the hefty price tag. Let's not kid ourselves, this is latter day British Leyland quality that somehow became a status symbol. But we love em' and keep paying to fix them...... Having spent much of the 90's and naughties in Mercs and Chryslers with close to zero repair bills, the engineering in these cars sucks by comparison. Owned by Indians and made to 70's BL standards. Who would buy such a thing at big money? But we do. Nobody can tell you why. They just have that X Factor. When you drive them they feel good and you smile. |

Why quote £87 grand, a TDV6 Sport SE was £38 grand in 2005, so older ones at £15 k today have kept their value well, my V8 was £59,609 in 2007, and worth 18 today, a much harder hit. |

Hence why my mate provides them with a warranty as my post says. So why would he end up with a bill? That's what the warranty covers? The warranty pays out and covers repairs? |

Also are we saying the land rovers are better quality when purchased from a main dealer? Because the other day the majority said main dealer history is worth no more than an indy service.

Not quite understand why you would think I was having a go, didn't even think you were expressing an opinion, just questioning your logic which as far as I know isn't a crime or in fact a reason to throw toys unless you are actually trying to pick a fight. ![]() Your claim about engine and turbo failures is way off, majority of failures don't reach the net because LR demand silence in exchange for help. Probably fair to say higher percentage of failures than most makes 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀 TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!! Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈 Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱 Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜 |

If a one man trader buys a sport for say 15k then a sells on for 19k which includes a warranty.
