hi,only just joined site& need advice please. just put deposit on 08 V8 &now wondering about a couple of things,if poss could anyone clarify some doubts i now have.it got mot showing 1st mileage of 25000, then only 2500 isn the next 3 years.35000 in total.would the drivers seat show wear on it,only on the edge as you get in.also (i know it depends on how driven),the discs all round have a fair lip on them.what would be a reasonable mileage before changing them.it drives really well.no knocking .had 3 owners.always loved the look of the res but just having some doubts.

The discs on mine need changing at 62k; they were also changed at 32k!

If it only did 2,500 miles per year that could be numerous short trips (i.e. a 'School Run' car) which could explain driver's seat squab creasing and heavily used brakes.

Personally I'd not be keen on a car that seems to have only been used infrequently or for short runs - have all the annual services been done?

Have you seen the previous MoT records ? - why not contact previous owner(s) and ask them your question. Unfortunately, because of the significant difference in value between high and low mileage cars they are sometimes given a 'hair-cut' i.e. electronically 'clocked'.

Sorry to just up this...is it easy enough for someone to clock these cars?

I thought you could do a MOT history check online which gives you the mileage history for each MOT?

Has it got a full service history? My car had loads of miles put on it but the previous owner (my sister in this case) only did relatively few in the time she owned it!

it does have a service book and has relevant stamps..no extra paper work except the last servicce & mot the mot shows the recorded mileage at the time of the last 4 m.o.t.'s.the last owner had 3 years &only approx.7 k'si'm afraid i'm not a mechanic but can do discs general maintenance.it seems genuine but as the so many horror stories i'm a bit worried.i've been reading this forum for quite awhile so did pick up some pointers.as said no noise from front end ,& it all looks original with no sparkling new bits.another question,do they not undersell chassis?

No underseal on chassis so expect to see a bit a rust coming through!

hate computers.thanks for advice.so do you waxoyl the chassis after cleaning it up or leave it alone.i have noticed the painted brake callpers on here so can see me doing that one weekend.i had long wheelbase shogun before ,had it 5 years,10years old when i got rid done 40 k's in it.was very reliable.wanted a change so getting rrs.so much mooooore ,dunno luxurious,looking etc etc..looking at getting the warranty direct that guys on here have recommended.bit of peace of mind

If there isn't any paperwork to back up the history then I'd ring the garages and ask if it was done, stamp can be made easily enough to replicate history. Different owners DO do different mileage so if the decrease coincides with a an owner change then that should make you breathe a little easier.

The only thing of slight concern is bolster wear on 35k. Light colours show wear easier but they are reasonably hard wearing unless it's had a fat owner (sliding on and off seat constantly on short journeys). thanks hoppy.tried to get numbers but couldn't find in phonebook.the rest of interior is really good .hopefully it is just a bigger person that was in and out of it.the dealer has had it for the last 2 sales (not main ,does seem really genuine,knows what can go,took me in one that has got the noisy front suspension.which he is replacing).i think because i've never spent this much on a car before it scary.i the sort of guy thinks what if, what if.it is the lighter colour &the wear is half way down the side of the bolster,the rest ok

hi simple 1.no it doesn't have sidesteps.think i know where you going .short person climbing in out, nothing to step up onto.dealer gonna get it sprayed so only short term fix,would it cost a lot to get the bottom squab re-covered.never in my car driving history(30 years) have i ever had car breakdown cover,but will now.thanks for all replies
