Dynamic Stability Control 2010 sport

Hi
I've a 2010 TDV8 sport, the car came with factory dynamic stability control.
When activating this you don't really feel that much difference to the drive and handling. Is this normal?
I recently drove a 2012 sport and when dynamic was turned on the car felt as if it was being pulled down to the road and the driving experience completely changed, the dealer said that the struts now have some kind of magnetic setup in them and when activated stiffened the hole car up and pulled it down!
My question is can I fit 2012 struts to my 2010 model?? I've noticed my struts already have an electrical wire on the top so the car obviously already sends power to them,
Does anyone know if this has been tried yet?

Any help or advise would be very much appreciated.

Dynamic Stability Control is not the same as Dynamic Response or the Dynamic programme.

DSC is there to help out when you lose control. If you press the DSC button until the dash light comes on then you are disabling the system - not a good idea most of the time! DSC is fitted to all RRS.

Dynamic Response is active antiroll bars. This is what was fitted to S/C and TDV8 (and an option on the 2.7 I think). Are you sure the wire going to the strut isn't actually the air line?

Dynamic programme is what you turn on by choosing the relevant setting on the Terrain Response switch. This is what is fitted as an option on some later RRS such as the one you tested.

I don't think the Dynamic programme can be retro-fitted. Or if it can, I'd be surprised if it wasn't an expensive task. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

RRSTDV8 thanks very much for the reply!
I think I may have got the names or terms slightly wrong,
The switch/dail I'm referring to is the one to the rear of the centre console just in front of the fridge. Think it's what your referring to as the terrain response dial, its activated by rotating the dial anti clockwise and stopping it on the symbol that looks like 2 wiggly white lines, when activating it on the 2012 model I drove everything happened that I mentioned in the previous post.......but when doing it on my 2010 model....nothing or not much happens!
I've also just double checked and there is defiantly electric wires going to the front and rear struts.
Hope this may explain it a little better and your knowledge may be able to help!

Cheers

After a little more homework it is definitely the dynamic program which is activated on the terrain response dail, when activating mine you get the symbol showing on the instrument cluster but to be honest that's pretty much it!
If modifying it to the 2012 system is out of the question what should the 2010 system be giving me......apart from a symbol on the dash??

As far as I was aware, it should stiffen the suspension, tighten the steering and offer better throttle response.

Maybe worth trying to hook up with another member with a similar model and see if your behaves the same as theirs, maybe comparing to a later model car means your expectations are different.

Don't forget the MY12 car also has the 8 speed box, which will behave differently to your 6 speed, meaning you may not notice the difference as much. You should definitely notice a difference in the corners when DR is activated though. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Morning mate!

Thanks for the reply, to be honest I'm not getting any of that with mine! Think it may need to be plugged into a diagnostic machine!
I've also got 62 plate 8 speed disco but only a commercial so very hard to compare!

Many thanks for your advise

Glad to try and help Smile
It does sound like you may have a problem, but I'm surprised it's not exhibited itself with numerous warnings and faults. Like you say, get it hooked up and see if there's anything untoward.

Thinking about it, I would definitely say that when I had my MY12 Sport, the ride went from 'wallowy' (you could notice the lean in corners) to 'firm' when the DR was activated.

Good luck and hope you get it sorted Thumbs Up ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
