Any hotell recommendations? Want somewhere top notch but not silly money.....up to £400 a night say is fine.

Is the Metropole any good? Any other suggestions.....this will be our first time in Venice so any must do's / see's?

Visited Venice 2009 and loved it

Stayed a few days at Hotel Des Bains, Venice Lido Resort but not my cup of tea then few days in Hotel Antico Doge which was well positioned near Grand Canal

We found the food excellent - best was down the side streets away from the tourists - eat with the locals

Best way to get around was on the water buses (vaporetto) http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articl..._table.htm

We went in October - temp was comfortable and no smell from canal which can be pretty bad apparently

Hotel Danieli looked very nice - had a beer and cocktail while we took a break from sightseeing and cost as much as a meal but SWMBO loved it

Have Coffee and a sandwich in St Marks Square for lunch but don't sit in roped area with band or you will get a shock when the bill comes - pick one nearby and listen to the music for free
