If you have squealing rear brakes read this

Be warned, you need to get this fixed before 10,000 miles or your first service, which ever is first otherwise it will not be covered by the warranty and the dealer will want to charge you about £90 to fix it.

I found this out today to my peril and told them to leave it alone in that case. L319 D4 HSE

Why didn't you allow them to fix it RR?
Apart from parting with ninety good notes what is your reasoning as I was under the impresiion that one of the causes of the squealing was an electronic parking brake not releasing properly and causing damage to the system.............remember that Land Rover parking brakes are not the same as on "normal" cars, they act as a clamp on the propshaft rather than on the front or rear brakes which is why, when I leave my car while I'm away, I don't leave the EPB on or the handbrake on my Def on as they can corrode to the propshaft. I have recently learned that the EPB will actually engage itself after a while so that may be a problem for me to overcome at some time! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I left it because it only squeals every now and then and not every time I release the EPB. If it WAS every time I would have it done for sure.

98% of the time I get no noise at all.

But in case anyone else gets this issue in a big way they need to know the rules! L319 D4 HSE

Cheers, agree with you about if it is happening regularly to get it looked at. The only time I have ever suffered it has been when the car has been offroad and usually an underneath washing session with the garden hose seems to cure it. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Ours does it intermittently but as it now has 7,500mls on the clock ( Shocked ), I will get it done whilst having recall for hoses and software update done.

Mine does that too every now and again, but given I'm past my first service and now on nearly 18k miles I might have missed the boat a little bit! Evil or Very Mad

Not in the case of the RRS & D3 Tim, the EPB operates a set of shoes against a drum at the rear inside the disks on both sides

True, service dept told me that too, they mentioned "drums" and I harked back to my Series 3...I said...Doesn't it have discs?

Why is that (10K miles or first service whichever comes first)? If it is a defective EPB causing the squeal, or any other cause other than worn pads or rotors, shouldn't the full warranty on the car cover it? There's even a TB on the EPB issue.

Noisey Rear Brakes

New here fellas! There are modified rear handbrake shoes available for RRS and dealers will change them regardless if you have a good dealer.
