Looking at buying the above car, 18k miles, 1 previous owner. (paying approx 35k) My concern is that it has only had 1 service, that was 100 miles ago, and was in September 2013. I am buying vi an authorised RR dealer. it has manufacturers warranty till September, and then the balance of the year is made up by the dealer. The car is immaculate and seems to run pretty well. but having never owned one in the past, I am slightly concerned abut the service history ?

Can anyone advise ?

Is it a LR dealer?

The dealer doesn't see the problem, my concern is that at 2.5 years old, it gas only had 1 service. i wouldnt have thought that normal if I am honest, but just looking for advice. Also been told bout suspension problems in this model ?

£35k for a mid 2011......I'd be trying to get myself into a MY12 car if I was you

The changes from MY11 to MY12 are well worth the extra few £ if you can bridge the gap. Electric tailgate, 8 speed Auto, SDV6 engine, better NAV, BT audio etc etc.

Had this with a LR dealer on a similar aged car about a year ago.

It had missed a annual service but was inside the mileage target. I wrote the JLR who said the warranty on engine, alternator, turbos, gearbox etc (i.e. mechanical, distance related items) was now void.

You might get a 3rd Party warranty to cover it after inspection but not a JLR backed policy.

JLR will insist on the every 12 months schedule unless the On-board requirement comes earlier through the mileage trigger.

I'd find another car with verifiable history; you'll only find out the error of your ways when its too late.

Surely a main dealer would service it before they sell it?

I'd find another car as I wouldn't trust the dealers word regarding the warranty.
Besides does the dealer have a say when it comes to a claim?

From the pictures, the car is a MY11 (doesn't have the electric boot or visible silver boot strip) so I'd look for another one as this is a late registered MY11 car, there were MY12 cars on 61 plates (I had one) so I think for a little more you could get a newer spec car with the correct service history  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

I have now decided against it, Looked at the comments on here and thought about it there for an hour or so, so will wait a month or so and continue the search. I have a 59 plate Audi A5. always wanted the RR Sport, but not unhappy with the A5, so not in a great rush, so can wait till I find the correct car !!

I think you've done the right thing.
In the meantime get to know the model as they changed around the time your looking at and it's worth understanding what changes were made. You might still decide on a MY11 car, but you don't want to kick yourself if you find out gtr later model has some features you'd have liked.  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i
