Intresting topic this JF When you have done all your research and had the proceedure done, if you can still see your keyboard will you post on hear your recommendations and advice about the whole experience please. If we don't hear from you again we will presume it went badly wrong.

If you're going to do it go to Moorfield's eye hospital; got to be the best place. Not cheap.

If not done absolutely correctly you can get a 'starry effect' when driving at night !! Get a couple of views at least as there are loads of different procedures that are called "Laser eye surgery"

I'm going for a free consultation with Optical Express (although I doubt I will end up using them) read a lot of good reviews about them but one too many bad ones.

Just to get the ball rolling really. Then going to speak to my optician. Not going to rush into it but also not going to spend £14k!

I think £3K to £4K would be the most I would pay before just putting my glasses back on.

I had mine done about 17 years ago at Optimax in Manchester. They're one of the leading laser surgeries in this country.

My vision is still as good as it was when I had it done. They have changed the method since then & the recovery time is much shorter now.

They are currently quoting £2300 for treatment.

Worth a look in my experience. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

I had mine done at Ultralase in Nottingham about 4 years ago, they offered me several packages and I chose the best one which was £4,500.

When I went for my consultation they put anesthetic in my eyes and then pressed the front of my eye, some sort of pressure test, eff me that was uncomfortable, not painful just bloody weird having somebody touching your eye and you need to keep it open LOL!!

The thickness of my corneas was not thick enough to have the usual operation so I needed to have an operation where they scrape the cells of the top of the eye as opposed to just cutting the flap and I was informed that it would be a longer recovery time.

The operation itself was a doddle and to be honest other than the anxiety before and the smell of your eyeballs melting it was fine seriously the operation was the easy bit.

My recovery was a bit of a bloody nightmare, I think it took 3 weeks before I could see properly without getting headaches and very sore eyes, I did make a very silly mistake though. I was asked to put this lubricant stuff in my eyes at bedtime, it is like the consistency of thick double cream, and one night I didn't put it in and in the middle of the night I woke up and opened my eyes and holey jesus mother of god I pulled all the cells of the front of my eyes because my eyes had stuck to my eyelids it was the most painful thing I have ever experienced I was in a right state, rang the nurse and was just told to suck it up the pain will pass, which it did but my one piece of advice would be: -

"If they tell you to put stuff in eyes, bloody well do it!!!"

So after 4 years I still can't give my eyes a bloody good rub because they are too sensitive, however you learn not to do it so don't really find it an issue, and the thought now of faffing about with contact lenses or glasses fills me with dread, so I'm just hoping my eyes don't change again as at 45 this is the tipping point for your eyes

All in all I would say well worth the effort/pain/money don't go cheap, do what they say, and order yourself a nice expense pair of Ray Ban's to celebrate

just said that she didnt want to pay for it, but would have the free treatment if she won, wanted her to go for a appointment to see if she was eligable for laser surgery, which she again told them she would, if she won
