Any 911 owners ?? As well as me !!!!!!!

I have been considering a few 911, 2003/2004 996s recently and test drove one yesterday. A beautiful car, great service history etc. but both the clutch and accelerator were much heavier than I expected, my right leg ached after a 40 minute drive.

A mechanic mate thinks the clutch might have been on its way out as it should be reasonably light and springy but couldn't explain about the accelerator. Is it just seriously heavy duty ??

Can anyone tell me from experience if they are all like this - might have to think again if they are !![/b] FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

Scotland 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Santorini Black

cant comment on the 996 clutch, but any older one has a very heavy feel.
Be aware there have been a few cases of the cylinder heads cracking due to poor design/efficiancy of the fan/water cooling
cheers

Cheers Dave - you're right there some scary stories about the intermediate shaft going bang but apparently the later 3.6 ones are better.

I wonder if the clutch was on the way out on the one Ive driven ? Apparently the throttle pedal assembly gets sticky if unused for a few weeks ???

Off to look at another one down south tomorrow. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

All, bar one of the 911's i have had, have been manual,, none of them were especially heavy in operation

As said, some early 3.6,, 996's were not so good, and a few replacement engines were fitted,, 997 TT, RR TDV8 Vog SE 90 V8 Hybrid

NP - that's where I test drove the one with the uber heavy clutch and throttle. Youre right, he has some nice cars.

Nice chap but not I wasnt 100% happy with the explanation about the clutch etc. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy

I had a 2003 996 C4S and it didn't have heavy pedals. Very nice car but I should have got the turbo..... Cool

Hi, neither the clutch nor the throttle should be ' Heavy' on any recent Porsche. Only a GT model car should have what might appear as a heavier action but that is the nature of the type of clutch and plate material.

I have had many Porsches and as a first foray into Porsche Ownership i would recommend a Carrera 2S ( good colour and spec ) and take Ady's advice as above and get his mate who is specialist to look at / look for one for you. They are great cars but if you buy a bad one/ abused one , it will cost you serious money and heartache & spoil your experience with the marque, so avoid that possibility and get good professional advice BEFORE you buy........

If its a 996 you look at ( and the Anniversary is a very nice car , narrow body model ) , you need to ask about the RMS seal & Intermediate shaft. Service History is ESSENTIAL.......

The 996 C4S is the most sought after and you may find a good one which will retain most of its value in the future....

Good luck and if you buy a good one you will appreciate why they are the only real sports car that you can use every day ......

TST TDV8 HSE....Gone but not forgotten ....class act
Cayenne S diesel.....850n/m....385bhp....the danglies ...
