looking to trade in my freelander 2 for the above, anything i should be aware of or look out for, its only got 10k on the clock and just had cam belt relpaced as part of last service as its 7 years old.

Also any idea on running costs and reliability etc etc etc

Having had my 2005 2.7 HSE for little over a year here's my limited issues... Touch wood.

Aluminium trim on steps fell off, rotten rivets, luckily whilst stationary? Can be 100quid to replace? Give them a shake, if there ready to fall off they'll come away in your hand.
EGR valve required replacing, although I've seen on here blanking them appears to be all the rage.
Main sump corroded, my indie has replaced more than 10 this year.
Discs and pads all round, can't complain.
Oil cooler inlet corroded, can't complain.
2 ball joints replaced, can't complain really.
Scrubbed inside of 1 tyre, four wheel alignment (and replacement tyre sorted that) adjustment after alignment check has made the ride much smoother.
Don't wait to have it re-mapped, initial outlay is quickly returned due to increased mpg. And just an all round better drive.
Some issues with drivers door handle, replaced under warrenty from private garage of purchase.
I've also bought a new second key and upgraded sat nav instal...

I'm going to stop counting now... £££££££?? Bottom line is, the car didn't cost the earth initially, all worthwhile jobs been done over the year and I now know exactly what I have out in the driveway!!

Private plate on before you drive home has all the neighbours craning there necks as they drive past in there 318i that belongs to there work.

2006 from new, Egr's failed at different times so no issues, most reliable car ive ever had considering its my toy (off roaded at least once a month) as well as a 350 mile comute each week

I'll give you my 7 month experience of ownership of my 2005 about to hit 100k soon:

- replaced rear bushes £70
- height sensor replaced under [extended] warranty £free


that's it I do about 750-1000 miles a month half city, half m-way. I'm getting 28mpg which equates to 23p/mile.
The benefit of getting an 05 is the cheaper road tax.

Mine is finally going in to the body shop to get it's facelift parts painted and fitted next week (pics to come)

Get the re-map done now, it'll have paid for itself by march. Then get the new goodies painted/fitted ready for the summer. Fit them now and come march after 6 months of snow/grit/motorway miles and they'll need painting again.

Looking forward to the pictures though.

Had mine since new, 53,000 miles, tow horse box every week and twin axle caravan occasionally and does have quite a hard life, BUT touch wood has been almost 100% reliable. Had a few teething problems with sensors in first few months and knocking bushes( soon sorted when serviced away from LR) also aluminium strips on side steps fell off years ago, now screwed on.
Tyres generally last 15k miles, still on original discs and front pads last 20k miles. 19 mpg around town, 26mpg on a run and 20 mpg towing caravan.
Only problem now is rust bubbles on rear doors that LR have never been interested in looking at.
