I used a bucket with a sprinkler and it was a scary experience knowing that I will shampoo the grit (instead of jet washing it away). Then the following day my car got covered in filth and haven't gotten round to cleaning it again

No hosepipe ban up here in good old yorkshire either to be honest if there were i'd still use my hosepipe unless the water board is offering a substantial discount for the water i'm not using

We've got no ban here with Wessex water...but 10 miles away is Thames water who do have a ban....  RRS gone

I wouldn't bother taking the hosepipe ban seriously.

The amount of water the water board wastes per year is without exaggerating 1 million fold that used by hosepipes during the ban.

20 years ago the water pressure in this country (on average) was much much higher, pressure was reduced to limit the water leaking out (rather than repair the leaks ), this shows an annual improvement in lost water figures but really is fudging the figures.

If you get caught using a hosepipe in a ban affected area you could face a £1000 fine. If you've annoyed any of your neighbours recently then washing your car with a pipe is likely to get you visited - people are that petty in my experience.

Me? That's a good enough excuse to not wash my car. Not that I need an excuse as I don't wash the thing anyway (other than taking it to the Poles in town).

Of course, you can legally use water from a rainwater butt to wash your car. Be easy enough to run it through a filter to get rid of any grit in it first. Someone might even fill a water butt with a hose over night if they wanted to be clever (and illegal of course) but with the rain we're getting at the moment there'd be no need... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The maximum penalties that they say you could get fined are a load of bull each and every crime has a maximum fine penalty but no one ever gets fined that, perhaps if they said if you get caught doing xyz then you will be fined xyz not the usual half cocked deterrent we have in this country. they should make it straight cut, life means life a £1000 fine means a £1000 fine and forget all this upto . britain get a back bone
