I know there are threads on this already somewhere here but can't find them so here goes.
The smoke coming out of my engine when cold and stationary from the pre-heater is ridiculous. It seriously looks like it is about to go up in flames.

I brought this up with the dealer last year when it started (this hadn't happened previously) and they said it was standard...

At the time the AA man either disconnected it or took the fuse out to stop it smoking and at the time I didn't notice any change to the cars performance or efficiency.

As the dealer is obviously not going to replace under warranty do you think i should just disconnect it or is it doing some amazing job in the back ground that I am not appreciating?

The other option of course is to replace it with a new one although wouldn't get that done from a main dealer so was wondering if there's a part number for this and if you can get hold of them pretty easily?

All it does is aid the engine with additional heat in cold weather... you'll not notice anything apart form slightly longer to get warm air through the airvents.

I quite like the plumes of smoke from my front left wheelarch...  RRS gone

Im actually concerned mine isnt working at all. Ive read numerous posts about smole from the wheel arch, and the last couple of mornings Ive tried looking for it.

It was -2 today when I started the car and there wasnt any signes of smoke/exhaust what so ever from the front.

Is there any way I can tell if this is working? Would the car tell me if it wasnt?

Before I go down the route of having all the remote kit installed etc Id like to ensure it is working, as I can see a warranty claim being denied if I try to have it fixed after Ive installed any extras that control it.

That's a lot of smoke!
It may be warm in the cabin, but just as well, as you couldn't drive antwhere because of the fog  ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Are you sure you have 1 fitted.

Yep its certainly there, or at least it looks to be. I can certainly see the little exhaust manifold looking device on the front right - like this pic from the other thread:



Just never noticed any smoke at all from near the front.

Any way to test if this is working, other than wait until it is cold and turn the car on looking for smoke?  RRS 3.0D HSE 11MY - Fuji White, a few extras.

Just touch the small convoluted stainless pipe,if it hurts and your hand goes red its working.
On second thoughts get SWMBO to do it while you turn the ignition on

when i seen mine work for the first time a few weeks ago,it smokes bad for about the first 30-45sec's then clears up.! take it that is normal
