Broadband Connection - Help

Just ran a broadband test utilising http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ first with my laptop which is CAT 5 connected to my router and got a download reading of 5,744kbps i then ran another test within 30 seconds utilising my desktop, again connected via CAT 5 to my router and got a reading of 3,803kbps.

Why such a difference does anybody know.

could be the amount of traffic between your router/isp and the test severs/isp at the time of test

speed do jump around a fair bit too

get the i-phone speed tester and check it over the wireless link

I've found that to be quite accurate RRS gone

Awd man - Just run it with iXray speed tester for iPhone and got an average throughput of 2888.58 kbps and max throughput of 3685.44 kbps.

Mine's just returned ave 3.4 on mybroadbandspeed and 4.0 on i-phone speedtest app.

what router are you running? RRS gone

What does the router say it's connection speed is? RRS gone

Not sure how to establish that, is it in the router set up menu?

Yes, you should have an html link to the router via your LAN.

So by typing your IP address of the router into the address bar of explorer should access the admin page of the router.

One in there, look for diagnostics or a broadband tab... one will tell you the upload/download speed (and if it's capped) RRS gone

Right up to 12 months ago we were the same... then we went up to 1meg, then 2 meg and now 4meg after a new line install (less noise) in 12 months! RRS gone

The default IP address of Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1. according to google

Blimey oldcrow things have moved on. When I lived in the Shetlands we had to go to Mr Mowitt's post office to make a phonecall. When I moved into a company house in Sumburgh ( Hardbreaks number 9 ) we had a telephone in the house, luxury!

It's very modern here now, they tell me that some people have mobile phones as well. We are still blessed with the same standard of councillor, throwing money at dead duck companies and investing in money wasting projects. But still a great place to live.
