Saturday afternoon I managed to sneak out (to get swmbo a valentines card) and on the way into my local town connected with a pretty deep pothole (blind corner, bus coming the other way... eyes closed knowing it's gunna hurt moment)..
Stopped almost immediately, due to obvious pulling on steering, nipped out and flat tyre... went to get spare out..... no wheel brace! OK RAC moment.... 1 hour later I'm finally on my way again.. with lovely black spare... only one HDC fault so far... but cleare on next start up and still mobile!

And that is precisely why I drive a poverty spec Sport with big fat profile tyres, may not look so good but with the roads in the poor condition they are at the moment I don't suffer with the nasty problem you now have. Presumably with the excellent photo evidence you will putting a claim in with your local council..
Yes I've contacted council and they're sending out a claim pack... I've taken quite a few pictures of the offending pothole, they cannot argue it wasn't there
In the time I was sat (waiting for RAC) I had 2 locals come up to me and relay that they'd done exactly the same as me on that very same pothole...and were also suing the council...

I think the council can always claim they were unaware of the pothole. I seem to remember they have a certain amount of time to fix the pothole once a member of the public informs them of it, unless someone reports it they can wriggle out of any claim.

Yes I know they'll try their best to wriggle out, I'm hoping the amount of road base-material to the left of the pothole (and all down the road) will work in my favor... it's not a "young" pothole for sure...

And I thought my newly adopted winter county of Surrey was bad!! One if the reasons my D3 has spent most of its life on 17" Contis. Looks like some recent repairs done in front of the pothole.
Ouch! if a pot hole has damaged your wheel like that it shouldn't matter how long the council has known about it, they have a duty to keep the roads safe, just supposing a motor cycle hit that, have you checked your rear wheel too? Ive got overfinch supersports like yours but i bought some 19's and put winter tyres on for all the months that have an R in it, i don't want to ruin my wheels either. Good luck with the claim.

I did the same thing last summer, no damage to the alloy but NSF and R tyres destroyed................ what made it even more painful was that 10 days later I handed the car into LPR with a set of 4 brand new Pirellis that had only run 500 miles
And the council would not accept liability even though they were aware of the pothole (I know this because the householder of the house whose drive I had to pull into to wait for LRA to appear had had 4 other cars have the same thing happen to them in the previous week................... and not only had he reported the hole but also all the other car owners had reported it). One thing as an aside - I had my brother in the car with me and he drives an Audi A4 Cab Quattro - he was amazed that the only way he realised what had happened was the noise of the rubber giving out (we were doing 60 at the time) The DSC cut in and the car drew up straight and true with no fuss. He reckoned his Audi would have been all over the road had he hit the pot hole at that speed in his car.

Useful guide; also worth checking whether it is logged on a site like www.fixmystreet.com. A signed statement from the two locals, indicating the period elapsed since they reported the problem would also go a good way in supporting your claim.
