Have you ever used your RRS for long distance towing fully loaded with kids, dog luggage etc??? I would have just assumed that the entry level engine would struggle slightly?? I just don't want to make the same mistake I made with my Audi and get the wrong engine and be stuck with it for 3 years.

My Audi is the 163tfsi and I'm lucky if I hit 35mpg so not a massive difference from what you have just said... Also isn't it funny how I have also had to have a clutch done with under 20k on the clock. From what I have read up on there are issues with the flywheel. (bitterly disappointed with my first new car about that)

If you can stretch to it I would suggest you look for a 59 plate 2010MY car - that is one of the early facelifted models with the 3.0ltr TDv6 (more torque and more power, less emissions) and look for one with the trailer assist option (LR's built in anti snaking system for cars towing large trailers and shacks on wheels) - you will probably find them mainly at LR dealers rather than you friendly local indy 4x4 dealer. By buying a 2009/10MY you will still have 1.5 years of factory warranty too. You can search the Approved Used section of the LR website for the exact spec you want and the price range. LR Approved used covers cars up to 6 years old and 100,000miles.

Now my Audi wont move sometimes even if it rains a little, so a bit of snow, and i keep its fat german arse on the drive and i keep mobile in a 51 plate Mondeo in a frock (Jaguar X-type) and in all hounesty its the best car i'v driven in snow for many many years. 2.5 V6 permenant AWD and its cracking, good fun also and cheep what with it being a Ford. So i'm looking to change soon and its defenatly going to be a RRS i would like some hounest opinions from owners, and some potential pitfalls i could hit??

The other major factor for me is the safety in which my 22 month old son is being transported in & the RRS is certainly one of the best in my opinion. I have had 2 RRS's now, both bought new. The 1st was a 2.7 V6 HSE and although I loved it at the time I can see how some would find it a bit underpowered (an engine remap did help though). My current RRS is a 2010 3.0l V6 HSE & the difference is amazing, The 3 litre unit has loads of power & is very quick off the mark as well as having loads of torque. Obviously not as much as the bigger engines but it's all a matter of degrees and for me the 3 Litre is perfect. I wouldn't right it off without driving one first! You haven't said how old an RRS you're considering, but, if it's fairly new then I would also look at the finance deals on a brand new car before ignoring that route..... Having the 3 year LR warranty with 3 years LR Assist cover is not to be sniffed at.

& was a pleasure to drive, I just fancied a change. I found a stonking deal (at the time) on a TDV8, I bought it with my eyes wide open and knew it wasn't perfect (due a service and new discs/pads all round)

We were in convoy all of the way back so it's not as if we were driving dramtically different.

That's mainly (I think) because of the Fuel Burning Heater, Lights always on, heated front/rear screens on, heated seat on max & have been driving in snow mode. I read somewhere on here that when the car is cold the auto gear changes happen higher up the rev range to warm up the gearbox oil quicker, this seems to be true.
