Hi all,
I have noticed that the front air suspension (both sides, left and right) rises very slowly. For example, when going from access mode to normal, or from normal to high, back of the car rises within .... 3-4 secs, but it can take up to a minute, and sometimes even longer, for the front of the car. Called RR Assistance. Technician said there are no leaks or fault codes, but "Suspect one of suspension unit has internal restriction". Not really sure what that means.

No problems with lowering the car.

Since so many members are pleased with the service at Lookers Park Royal, I took my RRS A/B S/C to them.

Wanted to introduce myself to James, but he was not in the office at the time. Hopefully will get to see him next time.

Even though the car is in the service already, if someone would like to share with his/her ideas on what could be wrong with the suspension, please do so, would be interesting to hear.

Just a quick update for the 74 viewers with 0 replies...

Left my RRS at Lookers Park Royal exactly at 12.00pm yesterday. 4 hours later, received a text message and later a phone call, a polite service man informed me that he was going to look after my RRS and will let me know when the car is inspected.

Today, no news so far which is a bit worrying, so I got in touch with LPR and was promised that the person would call me back... Vadim A.

Just got a call from LPR and was explained there is a problem with the air suspension reservoir. For some reason it does not hold the correct air pressure. Hence, they know where the problem is but they do not know what is causing it. Something sends a signal to the air reservoir to hold a wrong pressure level. Vadim A.

Well Vad, at least I am interested and can be bothered to post a reply. glad you got it sorted Well sort of sorted the "do not know what is causing it" is a bit of a worry  purple people eater

Indeed, the problem is sorted half way. I too believe that knowing the reason why it is happening is by far more important and failing to find the cause is a bit worrying. RRS is a complex machine but I hope they will find a solution. At the end of the day, I have had the car only for 2 weeks and I missing it already... quite disappointed to be honest. Slow air suspension was working even though very slow I could have lived with it. It was more of a principal - everything must be functional.

It has been 2 days since I took it to LPR. Service man said it was quite unlikely I would hear from them today. Regarding the service at LPR, so far so good. Their effort with SMS texts and phonecalls is very much appreciated. Vadim A.

Quick update.

Got a call from Lookers Park Royal. They cannot see why the air suspension is so slow. They do not get any faults, air leaks, nothing. I found this info online: "The usual problem is the compressor exhaust valve sticking, causing an internal air leak when the compressor is active. The bulletin recommends renewing the air compressor (RQG500090 is the latest specification air compressor with a stronger exhaust valve return spring)and installing and updating the air suspension control module software using WDS disc 13 or later."


However, since no faults/messages they do not know what to do... I asked them in what circumstances they could change the air compressor (because it seems to be the problem although not showing up on their screens), but he could not answer my question straight away and asked to leave the car with them for another day and promised me to call back today.

Yet another update.
Called LPR today. A huge turn around: they still say that they cannot find any fault (no fault codes, no air leak or anything of that sort) AND they also say that the suspension is working as it should be! It takes just few seconds to rise the car! But most importantly, they also claim that they did NOT experience any slow suspension on my car ever since I brought it to them ... They say that when I explained the problem, they suspected air pressure reservoir was faulty but it turned out to be not the case. However, they did admit that the air pressure level was incorrect...

Few days ago, they said they re-calibrated the car, ran several tests but were unable to spot anything wrong with it. I find it very strange, because I tested the car the same morning before I took it in. Finally, they said they will leave the car in access mode over night and test it in the morning. In case they fail to find anything wrong with it, I will have to come in and show the problem myself.

I am very surprised to hear that the suspension works as it should be.

Very strange, will see what happens tomorrow. How awkward it will look if I come in and point the finger at the problem if it is still present

Yet another update.

Went to Lookers PR on Friday and asked to see me car. They introduced me to the technician who was looking at my problem. So we had a 10-15 min chat, he explained that he'd ran all possible tests and the was only 1 possible (at the time) thing that could be wrong. So we all agreed that he would need to change a crossing over valve. They ordered the part and asked me to bring the car back on Monday to replace it.

Came back on Monday, left the car. Gave them a call first thing in the morning today, and guess what - they still have not changed the part. The claim that they have another car with the came problem and RR factory is very concerned about it since it is appearing to be a new problem with 2010 models. So they are running more checks and tests before they change the valve.

This is getting really uncomfortable now. The car has been with them for 7 days and last time the technician said he'd ran all possible tests already. So how did they come up with more tests... I don't know.

I have not been offered a replacement car last week (when my car was with them for 4 days), and I have not been offered one this week (2nd day today).

Not really sure what is going, and why would they not change the valve and see if that fixes the problem. After all, the technician said that would most likely be the problem. Vadim A.

Finally, the behaviour of slow air suspension has been explained. This is what the RR factory says:

THE FRONT AIR SPRING PRESSURES ARE HIGHER THAN THE REARS (10 TO 12 BAR VERSUS 5 T 8 BAR) SO WHEN THE RESERVOIR STARTS TO BECOME DEPLETED, THE REARS WILL GO UP QUICKLY (USING THE RESERVOIR) AND THE FRONTS WILL RAISE UP SLOWLY USING THE COMPRESSOR. IF THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM HAS HAD SUFFICIENT TIME TO RECHARGE THE RESERVOIR (TYPICALLY 5 MINUTES OF ENGINE RUNNING FROM A COMPRESSOR COLD START) THEN THE SUSPENSION FRONT AND REAR WILL RAISE QUICKLY. THE INSTRUMENT PACK MESSAGE HAS CHANGED AT 10 MODEL YEAR FROM “SUSPENSION LIFTING SLOWLY”, TO “VEHICLE RAISING IN PROGRESS”.

This perfectly makes sense, I did try to start the car and wait for few 2-3 minutes - no problem with suspension. So sometimes when reservoir is depleted, all you have to do is wait just few minutes.

Very satisfied with the service, very polite staff, always return calls ASAP and most importantly they do not get annoyed if you call them often . One minor thing though, I could have been given a replacement car, but then I took my car away for the weekend, so ... no complaints really. In case I have any other problems, will definitely come back to them. Good job LPR and thank you! Vadim A.
