Who on here works with LED bulbs for domestic installations

I don't 'work with them', but I have a fairly good knowledge of them in both cars and houses (my house is 70% converted to LEDs) - No I'm not Scottish (sorry Tim), just don't like to boast the el company profits!

What do you want to know?

1) I am an immigrant/ expat just like you are in Sweden only I have been here for 45 years!
2) I'm still learning how to save money - just replaced my first "energysaver" compact fluorescent lamps after 23 years of having them in the house, but I have a problem disposing of the old ones. They are coated with mercury inside and filled with an ozone depleting gas so don't want just to drop them in the rubbish, but nobody will take the dead ones. I think LED's would be more environmentally friendly than CF lamps too. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Sorry for tarnishing your fine reputation Tim, but sounds like the locals are teaching you well - as my father used to say, copper wire was invented by two scots fighting over a penny

LED lamps have come on miles over here - not sure where the UK is, but now you can get stepped dimmer versions and vary the colour through the white spectrum by speciying the kelvin range (blue, cold white through to warm white).

The cost savings are significant. In my lounge I had two tracks each with 4 x 75W halogens - so 600W now I have replaced with LED's and calculated I can run the LED's constantly for almost one year for the same cost as the halogens for just 15 days!

Here you can get LED versions of just about any fitting, shape or size bulb.

The way forwards, unlike energi savers which take so long to warm up and always look pink!

Just an aside, electricty here is soooooo expensive in the winter (due to 80% coming from hydro - frozen lakes are not good for hydro) - this is the coldest and longest winter for over 28 years - my electric spot price has gone up 80% since Nov 09 - my electric bill JUST last month was almost £700! Ok, I heat my garage, but live in a new build, with super insulation and triple glazed argon filled windows - brrrr....it's cold here. (not in the garage)

Sorry, don't know how you get shot of your old bulbs, maybe fit them to cheap bedside lamps and hand in to a charity shop (go burn in hell Tornado )

Anyone know if LED technology has advanced far enough yet, to provide a suitable replacement for 20W MR16 lamps in a landscape lighting environment ?

I know that there are MR16 LEDs available, but I wonder if there's ones with enough of "bang" off them, along with the correct colour temperature to be a good enough replacement for the 20W halogen lamp yet.

Is there LEDs for 40w G9 halogen?

What are the best for GU10 (mrg/c) 240v/50w

still can't get direct replacements for 50W GU10

the closest are Deltech 5W LED GU10's

in case of G9's I believe Megaman do them but I've not tried any
