Tim, thanks for the intro but we'd not carry out suspension work on a vehicle with 22"s under warranty. You never know it may have been us or Battersea as he's in London. Embarassed

Warranty work is Land Rover's money not ours, therefore the rules cannot be broken by us. As I've said before, any dealer selling non-approved accessories is in breach of their franchise agreement. I would also question type approval if fitted to a new vehicle prior to registration and customer handover. Confused

Most of you know that I will always try to be as helpful as possible, however any non-approved mods then you're on your own! Rolling Eyes

+1 Thumbs Up

Never a truer word spoken.. I have "suspension noise" and am only on 18" oem wheels! Guess what - Land Rover blamed my all terrain tyres, despite the fact that Land Rover Australia customer care so it was ok to fit AT tyres prior to fitting, and so did the dealer, who quoted a price to fit the AT tyres! Censored

My issue is ongoing, and looking likely I'll be seeing LRA and the dealer at the local tribunal or court!!

If normal RRS have suspension knocking problems with 17,18,19 and 20's.......believe me 22''s are not a contributing factor - I had a very mild knocking sound, and I have found a dealer who looked at it, and did the work under warranty and fixed the problem. Either fit 20's or find a better dealer....!!!! Simples

Haven't you read any of the threads on this site? (I know you have...)

Hello Jonathan what benefit do i have in being a 'trouble causer'?

I have read the other threads but i still believe if you fit non standard equipment you have to accept that LR may refuse to cover any arrising warranty work, the dealer has to authorise any warranty work with LR before carrying out a repair, if this is not sanctioned who pays for it?

Quote:
There are 4 brand new cars in the Farnell dealership in Leeds with 22" wheels on - sold as new - no sign saying "Your warranty is invalidated" - £70k cars - now come on - surely if you bought the car from that dealer with 22" wheels they are, in effect, validating the wheels as acceptable.

This is different if you buy a vehicle supplied by Farnell with non standard eqipment, then your warranty will be with Farnell not LR and i agree any problems should be sorted out, its then between LR & Farnell to see who foots the bill

Quote:
There is no mechanical issue with driving on 22" wheels.

I'm no mechanic so i will take your word for this, but if its LR warranty they would have the final say

Quote:
This is purely a naive ploy from the dealer to avoid sorting out what is a known problem. Avoidance of responsibility - not a nice trait.

Don't give me all that "Land Rover sedigned the car bla bla bla..." it's a cop out.

I totally agree with you on this point, so why give the ammo to do this?

In fact - I am beginning to wonder if you are a closet 22" wheel fan but just too conservative to let your feelings out. Is there anything else you want to tell us all?

Rolling with laughter yes impartial view coming right up!!!

I still struggle with the Overfinch and LR thing - it's almost as OVerfinch seem to have the backing of LR, as they are a fine outfit......but much of their business is based on the 22's....

Kahn however, just seem to customise everything in site.....BMW's. Audi's, Bentleys etc etc......Overfinch seems more true to the cause and just sticks with the one brand. bet if you held a poll people would choose Overfinch 99 times out of 100 over Kahn....

I think you guys are being a little unfair purely because Ewan has Kahn wheels installed, I could imagine a different response if he had 22" Stormer wheels or Overfinch. I posted up some info on warranty issues with dealerships, I will paste this below;

"Thank you, we've never had any problems with our local dealership in terms of warranty issues as they know us well and promote our products. There are also a few other dealers that promote the 22" Overfinch wheels to their customers so I would have thought they'd have no issues with having 22" Kahn wheels installed either. We have had a little trouble with some non local dealerships in the past but we have generally managed the resolve the situation by either speaking to the dealership or recommending the customer bring their vehicle to our local dealership."

Also as the other members suggested, installing a set of original 19/20" wheels is a good idea if you have access to some. Kahn Design Sales

Climbing on the high horse! -

I dont understand why people are making a fuss about LR not paying!! - If you buy anything, be it white goods, cars, bikes, tv and electrical stuff etc... If you modify it you invalidate the warranty, this is nothing unusual - all car manufacturers do it. Trust me, i'm an Engineer!

yes, totally agree with you there.

Furthermore, if the vehicle is designed to run on max 20" then I fail to see what these people expect fitting 22" bling wheels.

The fact is 22" wheels prevent you fitting tyres with the correct aspect ratio, this decreases shock absorption by the tyres and the suspension takes even more of a hammering - result is a knock.

You fit 22" wheels and it goes wrong then sorry imho its your problem not LR's

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post comments, it's very interesting to see the difference in opinion. Just wanted to clarify that I'm not trying to get something for nothing. I feel that as this is a well known fault on the vehicle it should be repaired regardless of the wheels. If it had been a one off I would have taken it on the chin and accepted I had brought it on myself by having a Kahn Conversion. What's more frustrating is some dealer fix it and others don't, just no consistency! Can anybody give me a name for a dealer that will definitely do the work? Thanks.

I was down at the Overfinch Leeds showroom about 18 months ago, they had Overfinch Porsche's, Audi Q8's as well as LR Vehicles etc in the showroom.

IMHO Overfinch has a lot better taste than some budget tasteless customisers - just look at the OF Holland and Holland FFRR

i agree dealers use things like 22's as a get out of jail free card! but as problems are known i think they should be changed under warantee! esp as things like bushes were a "design fault" from the start!

i also think some of the dealers that supply 22" wheels are making exceptionally good "bonuses" to sell them! thus its almost worthwhile selling them as the chances of an issue arrising is very low! lets face it, if there was a warantee problem with a car sold on 22s by a dealer, the same dealer would just put it through without saying anything, as they still get paid, and the customer is happy! RR Sport supercharged 06
