Warning - 2010 MY Owners using pre 2010 foot mats

Hi,

Thought I'd share this with the rest of you who like me have taken delivery of a 2010MY R/R Sport. Week before last I was just joining the M27, put my foot flat down to get past the car in-front & then pulled back into the middle lane.

Problem was - the car kept accelerating! In all honesty it caught me by surprise & owing to the pace of the 5.0L S/C I very nearly went up the back of the car in-front. I quickly realised the accelerator pedal was jammed very tightly under the 'tread' of the floor-mat.

I contacted Land Rover customer services the next morning & told them I was concerned - after all - had the wife been driving the car with the kids she may not have realised what caused it.

Immediately the guy at cusotmer services looked up my vehicle on his system & informed me there had been a very recent bulletin sent out to the Dealer network insisting that 2009MY or older Floor Mats should NOT be fitted to 2010my cars. He went on to say there was a risk that there is not enough distance between the pedal & mats causing the pedal to become jammed! Exactly what happened to me - bearing in mind I had covered 3,500 miles with no problem up till now.

I contacted my supplying Dealer who told me they had the bulletin from Land Rover regarding only using 2010MY mats, but they had not been told the reasons why!! They admitted I may have had mats from an older vehicle took in P/X & quickly arranged for me to have a new set of mats which has resolved the problem.

Just thought I'd make other owners aware - my advice would be to check you have the correct mats - especially if you took delivery of your car early after release. '10 Jaguar XKR Coupe 5.0L Supercharged.

Amazing how a few mm of rubber could potentially casue such catastrophic results. Just think how many dealers out there will probably try and clear their old stock before fitting the correct 2010 mats. 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey with Alpaca premium leather, Adaptive cruise, Adaptive Bi-xenons, sunroof, Premium Nav, Premium ICE Logic 7, telephone, active locking rear diff, console coolbox, seat memory, powerfold mirrors, tow pack, window tint, dual battery, engel fridge, Goodyear Mud-Terrain tyres.

Sorry it has taken me a while to reply as to what the mats look like - if i'm honest I couldn't remember last night!

In any case - the 2010 mats have 1 centrally positioned hole at one end which secures them to the clip from the carpet. The mats I took out had no central hole for this clip to go into.

The 2009 & older mats have 3 or 4 horizontal lines or 'treads' going across the length of the mat starting from the centre of the mat up to the end where the accelerator + brake pedals are.

The 2010 mats are identical in this respect except for 1 of the horizontal lines stops two-thirds of the way across (from L to R); leaving a gap/recess at precisely the location the accelerator pdeal goes when depressed.

In any case - I'd strongly reccommend anyone with a 2010 car checks they have these fitted on the drivers side at least.

I've done 40,000 miles a year for the last 13 years so I'm not new to driving - but I have to say that accellerator pedal wasn't just jammed - it was jammed tight. I could have so easily killed someone had I been overtaking on an A or B road as opposed to the motorway. '10 Jaguar XKR Coupe 5.0L Supercharged.
