Ok folks - absolutely no sarcastic comments about towing caravans! It's s very nice Hymer caravan and will maintain the overall prestige of the RR brand - although I will be doing 50 odd miles an hour!!!

However I need to get some extension wing mirrors for it - there must be a standard for RR?

I will be going to the dealership on Wednesday for squeaky steering wheel and juddery steering wheel on braking and will ask then but thought someone might have experience of this.

Any help appreciated as always!

I use milenco aero mirrors on my FL2 I believe the mirrors are the same, but I think they have to be fitted the the bottom of the mirrors if you have mirror caps(I don't)

they are very sturdy and give you great degree of visability and if you want more they also do a grand model

someone else recommended those but he had a shogun so wasn't sure if they fitted! thanks for the feedback though - I am pretty sure I will get them - there's a nice storage bag for them aswell isn't there?? Jaguar XKR Convertible

Not sure if there is a bag that goes with them to be honest i just throw mine under the caravan when I get on site and they show no signs of wear or damage

when your looking make sure they don't have rubber straps, there the old style and are not a sturdy (not sure on grand aeros if they have straps)

Milenco grand aero mirrors - about £30 a pair on ebay £40+ at caravan accessory shops. Nothing else comes anywhere near in terms of quality and performance - and yes a bag is included. Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

I have the aeros but to be honest i found them to move abit with vibrations so i tried the stick on ones , they are smaller and they are easy to put on plus they can be moved with the mirror switch so no manual movement needed , i use these all the time now.

How about cutting 30cm or so off each side of the caravan? Then possibly dousing it in petrol, standing well back and firing a flare at it........on the other hand that's a bit of a waste of a perfectly good flare

Sorry cheap shot I know, it's just hard to articulate the many many many hours of misery I've suffered at the ill trained hands of caravaners. It just seems the M5 is an open invatation for them to flip over and ruin my and thousands of others weekends.

If you had to have one though at least your towing it with an RRS, it probably brings down the brand a lot less than the RRS's you see around London "pimped out".

It's a bit more of a pain than mirror extensions but you could wire up a rear view camera on the back of the caravan that dispalys on the centre screen. My rear view camera is fitted in the removeable towing electrics cover on the back. The camera just has push fit power and video connectors so it can be easily removed, or in theory replaced with the wires for the caravans video feed.

I did not flip over at the weekend whilst towing my carvan on the M5, I did however have a caravan tyre blowout and sat on the hard shoulder for 2 hours in the pouring rain

Now things could have been a whole different story if the caravan wasn't fitted with Tyron Bands which allowed me to pull over safely Best £100 i have spent

I say this up front, I know a sum total of d*ck about caravans, but why do they have such tiny pathetic wheels when they are so big? Surely if they had wider tyres with a lower profile they would wobble around less. I'm not suggesting 24" alloys with 30 profile tyres but they generally just look total underkill for the size of a caravan?

Alot of the wobble is either due to excess speed, incorrectly loading/weight distribution and lack of servicing of the caravan. and obviously weather conditions (side winds etc)

My caravan has 14" Alloys, and as you say there is quite alot of tyre between the wheel and the road. I don't know much about tyres myself, I can only assume 14" plus lots of tyre weighs less than 19" and low profiles

And with a caravan lowering the weight is what manufacturers want to do
