I have decided what to do with my new car choices and will be keeping my current RRS for a few more months and will be getting a second hand Porsche Cayman S - what do you think about the porker?? I had though of a nearly new TT in white, but I didn't think that idea really had my imagination and I have heard so much about the Cayman and what a great car it is. I'm buying second hand at about £27K, do you think they will hold their residuals well if kept for 3 years, and any perils about buying a manual, and without navigation?

I would really appreciate your thoughts - especially James and Kam's, as this is your work and deal with this kind of thing every day. Decided not to sell RRS and use the Porsche money all for just one car - a bit limiting and I fancy something a little sporty, and of course to still keep my RRS

Cayman S is an excellent car and less hairdressery than the Boxster (or the TT come to that).

A colleague of mine has got one with PDK and the only thing I would say is that the manual is the better drive. PDK is clunky, slow and clumsy - even compared with SMG which it's mean to be better than.

Can't comment on the residuals but having done a quick few laps of the airport in his, I was mighty impressed. Haven't had a chance to have a go in the new Z4 yet - and I think that's the next nearest competition.

Nick as S says the Cayman S is a great car. It MUST be an S model.

AMAZING car for the money, and yes it will do well on residuals as long as its an S model.

The S is supposed to be SO good that most magazines question the reason for spending so much more for a 911
or whatever they are now called as the Cayman S they all reckon is a better drivers car.
Nick I must admit that that was the car that I though of as possibly being my next car too after I found I couldn't see out of the AM V8 Vantage as I sat too low in it even with the seat at it's highest setting The TT's high waistline/narrow side windows caused a similar problem as well, I just didn't feel comfortable with the driver's side window at chin level! I must be too used to driving big high glassy Land Rovers that all have superb visiblity out all round!! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I hate manuals and got on pretty well with the auto box in the cayman s but i was treating it like an autobox as oposed to an 'smg/dct' style box. Didnt get to track it but had to shoot across london twice a day for a week in one and i liked it more than the tt. Theres just something about the look of the TT (especially the S) that makes me want it more though. Not driven it to compare unfortunately . WINNER - 2008 Best All New Photograph

Thanks guys, VW you're right the TTS does look good and can't understand people who buy the TT RS - but anyway, seeing 2 Cayman S tomorrow, one in black and one in grey - low miles, both manual and both without navigation. Just a little side bit of news, prices on a lot of high end cars are going up Maser GT's are now 5K more than I was going to pay in Feb....guess the piece in Autocar stands right...AM's and Bentley's are picking up well.

Only negative on not buying from a franchised dealer is the warranty - am buying a 56 plate car which is near end of warranty - extra year costs 2K - but people say they very very rarely go wrong - is that true??

Will take me some time to get used to the manual - which leads me to the next Q - how many of you left foot brake your auto's? I'm having to do it driving a Figaro as the brakes aren't all that good - and the extra pressure of my left foot works well...

Cayman S sounds like the right one

I believe one of the Freel2 forum members drives one, goes by the sign on Gammba, his is remapped and lives out in Dubai with him, but what I have heard it agreat car so it might be worth a Pm to ask his thoughts On the car itself
