So.... it was 5 in the morning, coming back from the New Year's party, and it was snowing... Not too much, but there was some snow on the road... No big deal, turned Terrain Response on snow and paid attention.
I was driving downhill and as I already wrote an the forum before, I got some well worn Contis. Anyway, during a turn the RRS decided to go straight... I hitted a small wall/big curb, can't really remember. I thought the bumper was at least scratched if not worst. I checked the car, the only thing I found was a damaged rim (the front left one) and the car now seems to go a little to the left while keeping the steering wheel in the middle.

Basically I've hit the left front wheel while trying to turn, around 20/30 km/h. Should I check something else? The suspension seems fine but maybe there's some hidden damage somewhere...

Now I'll finally get some new tires and fix the wheel...

Yes, new year's party can do that......

I guess would be a good idea to have the dealer lift the car to check under if you bent anything and have the alignment checked.

Doh... Took it to the dealer, I broke a couple of the front left suspension parts, don't know the name in english... Around 700 CHF for the parts and 900 for the job...

Anyway, I got a question about driving in snow. I'm a total newbie in this so every little advice is welcome, since with my previous cars (not snow-friendly at all) I tended to simply leave them in the garage when it was snowing outside.
Now with the RRS I thought to be ok... I mean, it's my fault because I had some over-worn summer tyres... But this morning I just received my new Hankook Ventus RH06 (they're not filed under "snow tyres", but they got the Mud + Snow certificate and a snowflake symbol on them), will I be ok with those and my RRS in the next snowy day?

finally got my first taste of driving in snow just before xmas, 6"+ fell on my day off so off to the forest we went. I also have conti's/20" so after a small skid on a side road(going to fast!) i selected low ratio, snow/gravel setting and i was amazed how well it performed up very steep inclines no problems and on down hill i simply pressed hill descent and steered its a shame we don't get more of the stuff!  MY10 3.0 TDV6 HSE, Zermatt Silver, 20" Diamond Turned Alloys, Factory Privacy Glass, Premium Leather, Contrast Stiching, Side Steps, Etc

The better your tyres grip whatever surface they can do, the more control you'll have of course. BUT it's all relative and the RRS doesn't make anyone invincible. You still need to be careful, accept that the laws of physics still exist despite the terrain control! Be aware that you're stopping distances can be much greater and that it's often what's underneath the snow that can cause you to end up going into a hedge backwards.

I had my first very frightening experience with the Goodyear all-seasons-tires that were on my RRS when I bought it. Then I went for some decent winter tires (Pirelli Scorpion Ice+Snow) and everything is fine since then. I have been driving on roads that had such black ice you couldn't walk on them but with the RRS and the Pirellis no problem at all!
With decent winter tires this car is a dream to drive in the winter. But never forget: Accelerating and driving might be better than with a two-wheel-drive car but braking isn't. Breaking works great for a car of this size and weight but then it is a very heavy car so be aware that your stopping distance may increase massively and the speed you can go through corners is of course a lot less. Just drive in a manner so that none of your passengers can tell whether there was snow on the street or whether it was dry, then you will be fine!


Personal tipp: Search for a snowy surface with lots of space such as an empty parking place (without curbs or laterns on it ) and then go playing a little (slowly!), that's what I do every time I get a new car. It is really good for getting to know the car and it's reactions and of course it's great fun.  RRS TDV6 HSE, 2006, bonatti grey, ebony interior, rear diff, s/c grille and vents, stormers, privacy, tasmods, iphone integration

My car is having a couple of the suspension parts replaced... But the dealer call saying he's struggling to get the geometry right on the right side of the car and he don't have any clues why... But I hit the curb with my LEFT front wheel, any idea on what's happening?

More training required for your dealer?

Ok, got my beloved back, everything is fine now! And I got my new Hankook Ventus RH06, let's hope they're up to the job...

While I have the 20's off the TDv8 I have taken them into have the kerbing damage fixed and the wheels refurbed (they are only 15 months old and 3 out of the 4 have serious kerbrash ). The "operative" that looked at them and gave me the quote said "Oh no not more of those - we get more of those Land Rover wheels to repair than any other design, even the local LR dealer sends us his!"
Mine are the 20" 10 spokers that are standard on the Tdv8. Price £220 inc VAT to refurb the 3 damaged rims and £30 to re-polish and clearcoat the 4th one which is undamaged so it matches the other 3. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
