Another Bobby nugget.... that happened to mine on a few occasions and if I'd know about it then I wouldn't have had to spend half an hour trying to force it shut Laughing

Did you try the Master Lock/Unlock on the dash?

Press the Unlock button to unlock all the doors.
Press both the Unlock and Lock buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to release the whole tailgate.

Is it necessary to have the ignition switched on for this or should it be left off ?

Thanks

Why not set the LR button to switch the lights on and not open the gate?

Not like it has auto open you still have to go to the back of the car push the button and open it yourself RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

Works for me as often have arms full of stuff to put in the boot and do not want to have to press unlock all doors twice to get the boot unlocked then you never know if it is open or not Confused Rolling Eyes at least the 3rd key opens it in one press then you can flick the boot open with a finger ....

sort of related but a few times the tailgate has stuck in the 'not open and not closed' position. It ALWAYS sorts out when i turn the car on and press the lock/unlock button in the center console. I figured maybe the power got cut to the motor or something .

The problem is due to the electronic lock mechanism not recognising the partially latched tailgate. It wont release to the open position because it doesn't "see" the latch as closed. And it won't lock for the same reason.

If Bobby's double button fix doesn't work the only other way of opening the tailgate is to push down on the tailgate, near the central latch area and press the tailgate release button at the same time. You sometimes have to apply quite a lot of force so it may need two people to release the tailgate using this method.

Thumbs Up Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Thanks all, seems very much like the problem was as TB mentioned which was that the upper tailgate section somehow came undone slightly but not enough to open. It was therefore showing as being open on the dash indicator but not enough to lift up.

When I tried to open it the damn thing wouldn't budge so a little force on the lower part of the rear window did the trick.

The only problem now is that the upper tailgate doesn't seem to want to open and as it was dark etc by the time I got home to sort it I didn't bother looking into it further.

Think it may be a faulty mechanism that originally caused the problem and now is causing the upper part of the tailgate to fail to open using the touch pad above the number plate. (Or maybe it's iced up or jammed shut with the amount of grit off the roads !!)

Think i have a trip to the LR centre to look forward to but presume it will be under warranty anyway.

Thanks for all the advice though, much appreciated and, as ever, extremely useful Thumbs Up
