Apparantly, there was a significant cost attached to re-engineering the R8 to accomodate the DSG box so they stuck the Gallardo e-gear robotised manual box on it and called it R-Tronic (I think).

By all accounts, it's very clunky and grabby...  Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award

Actually I fould the gear change smooth on the R-Tronic.....it just didn't feel worth the £s

If it was £50K , I would have thought it a good buy, when I get out of the GT3 after a few hell raising miles across country lanes my whole body tingles......just didnt get that "buzz" with the R8.

Interesting and I suppose it goes to show that you can read all you want in car mags but test drive is a must before you buy.

I just think that with the automated manuals as opposed to proper autos/DSG's etc I wouldn't always want to use the paddles, I want a proper functioning auto for when I just want to stick it in 'D' and let the gearbox do all the work.

Again, just from what i've read this is where e-gear/R-Tronic/SMG etc. fall down.

Indeed, BM seem to be switching to their new double crotch gearbox as are Porsche (To replace their torque-convertor Tiptronic auto box)  Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award

It was hilarious......Hammond was so funny when he was celebrating winning his race in the Bowler!

And "James May" drove that AM incredibly!

Excellent... sitting on the Sky+, so will try and watch tonight.
