After the wife kept dropping hints over the Audi R8, I called the local dealer hoping to get on a list and order one up ..... they would take my deposit and supply a car in 3YEARS..... guess that is out the window then.....

they said that by that time a new R10 ??? will be available for more $$$$$ (thought that was a Le Mans car), think he meant the R8 V10...... Brit across the Pond

Even Audi dealers have used ones in stock now - although they are loathe to advertise them as it goes against Audi main office policy to add premiums on to the cars - but they will advertise say, used cars, maybe even a year old now, for exact list price. i came close to buying one here - sticker price £96K, with 40K in, premiums on a lease were still £850 a month - hence why I opted for Maser Gt instead. if I were to sell the three cars I have, I would probably go for an R8 as my one and only car - for reliability, network etc.

I like the R8 a lot and it has been discussed on here quite a bit.

Personally, I wouldn't ever buy another manual as:

1. I'm a lazy git
2. Autos are so good now I have never missed a manual
3. I have a dodgy knee anyway

Problem for me, is the gearbox on the R8. Apparantly, the cost to re-engineer the DSG gearbox to fit the R8 would have been prohibitive so they've given it the e-gear out of the Gallardo.

Every review i've read says it's awful.

Even BMW have finally seen the light and are replacing the SMG with their own version of twin clutch gearbox. Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award

I always liked the SMG II/III in bmw's.

R8 is still a lovely car. I dont think i could wait 3 years for one though .

You're not the only one

I'm driving around in an Alfa Romeo 156 SportWagon 2.0JTS Selespeed.
And that's a semi-automatic gearbox. I never want to drive with a manual gear box again!
But next time I want a proper automatic gearbox, because the Selespeed is almost giving me a Whiplash when it's changing gears. It's driving me mad sometimes.

And don't believe a word of it that something like that won't make it into production in the next 2 or 3 yrs either. The Z8 was too shortlived and I reckon this will be the spiritual successor

You don't have to wait 3 years for an R8 who said that? I could get another next week for a 10K premium or a list price one in 14 months.
