Birds and my RRS.....................

I have a problem with birds........................ they just love my Stornoway RRS TDv8 whereas my previous TDv6 in Giverny was never very popular with them so this is a new problem for me!

Now these are birds of the wild and feathered variety before Jaymann gets too worked up and the problem is they use the nearside mirror as a perch and leave a streak of birdpoo down the door. It doesn't matter if the mirror is folded in or left out the local bluetits and sparrows seem to love lining up on the mirror cowl for their constitional and what a mess they are making. I notice that this year for the first time they are also using the nearside mirror of my Defender for the same purpose. Now don't get me wrong, I encourage wild birds in my garden, but this is the first year I have ever experienced this sort of behaviour and they are fearless - yesterday one little blighter was still hanging on with it's little claws hooked onto the rubber of the window seal even when I backed out of my drive, I had to fold and unfold the mirror a couple of times before it got the message and flew off, not before it deposited another white and black streak down the door skin. I'm getting fed up with having to hose off the side of both cars twice a day at the moment so has anybody any ideas what I could use to keep the birds off the cars? Cats are no good - we already have about 6 of them in the estate and they are so fat and slow that the birds aren't frightened of them any longer..................................... 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

it might be daft to say but what about some of those spikes that they put on the top of CCTV cameras, little suction pad to keep them in place

Take a little time to stick them on but less time than hosing the car down twice aday Rolling Eyes

They do them in black or Grey so you can decide what the match it too, the mirror case or the paint and leave them in place all the time like a pit bulls collar Rolling with laughter

There is product out here called "Hot Foot" or something like that which we can paint on areas where birds perch - as the name suggests it makes their feet hot and they keep off. Have a look round you hardware stores or animal section in the supermarket.

Aside from that I must admit I wouldn't mind having a bird hanging round my wing mirror - blue tits or no blue tits SDV6 (14.5) Corris Grey NZ Spec + door mouldings, mud flaps and tow bar

Hi Tim,

The decoy owl is a good idea but a much simpler way ( Whistle ) would be to get a piece of cloth and soak it with the urine of a large cat predator such as a lynx or a jaguar which has a particulary potent urine, then wrap the cloth round each mirror.
