don't you have to pay Gordon some TAX on the diesel you make, I seem to recall something on 5th Gear when they was running that Red Merc that you did

S, we would have severe problems running our great big lump on diesel as it is designed to run on thick black sh*te. We are actually being forced down this route but is very expensive to buy and convert the engine to run on it - imagine the screams of the public because of the price increases of all of their food and cheap chinese manufactured goods to pay for the increased cost of the fuel - something in the order of doubling or tripling our daily fuel cost! Also we have to change all the fuel pumps (we have 48 on my ship each costs $50000) and the purfiying system as well as chnaging the entire lubrication system because we need to use a different luboil if we run on deisel! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

You used to have to pay the equivalent tax to that paid on hydrocarbon fuel. Last year, they changed the law and allowed individuals to make up to 2500 litres/year without paying any tax.
Apparently it was costing them more to try and collect the tax on "chip oil" fuel than they could possibly make, so they gave up.
However, I'm absolutely convinced to my core, that there are some civil servants somewhere devising schemes to collect tax in some form or another on this type of fuel.
Lets face it, they try to persuade us not to use our vehicles, not to smoke, not to drink, but if everyone went on the wagon, stopped smoking and rode a bicycle everywhere, the government coffers would take a severe hammering. They're hippocrites, the lot of them!

Just remember that burning anything that hasn't come out of an oil major's forecourt fuel pump will almost certainly validate your warranty - read the first section of your LR handbook, even bio-diesel doesn't wear with LR. What worries me is the warranty situation from next week when all fuels sold in the UK must contain 2.5% bio-fuel 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Obviously new oil is best - sunflower or rape seed oil are good. Used oil has to be filtered to remove solids. Used oil is better if it's only had vegetable matter cooked in it - chips! It's not so good if it's had a lot of meat products cooked in it - sausages, burgers etc.
Used oil is good for me as it's free! Very Happy

Agree about vehicles under warranty - LR will only tolerate 5%. In two weeks time all forecourt pump fuels have to contain 2 1/2% biofuel. You may already be putting small quantities of biofuel in your tank without realising it. Question Range Rover Evoque 5 door on order.

Not sure where they get these prices from, UL is more expensive than Diesel over here but that report says differently.

Mate of mine was saying the other day when he arrived in Cyprus 5 years ago he could fill his L200 for CYP£9!! (GBP£11.50).

Now costs him equivalent in Euros of GBP£48.

That's quite a price hike! Runner up - 2009 Best Avatar Award Sad
