Expanding stock stereo in an SE - suggestions/solutions?

Hi yall!

I am picking up my brand new RRS next week, and there are several things that I would like to change in this car. I will be posting separately about the others, but this question is on stock stereo.

As I understand from reading this forum, the stock stereo can not be removed as it is itegrated into the car's electronics. Fine. As far as understood from the sales person and the specs, my SE carries a one-CD no-MP3 stereo. Pity, but as alsways there should be solutions.

Am I correct understanding that stock stereos for this car are manufactured by Alpine? Has nyone installed this connectivity module: Alpine APF-M211RO? Looks like a solution for mounting cd and dvd-changers et al to the stock stereo.

Another option is the LR iPod adaptor. Here I have a question: I tested an Audi iPod connector kit on my current A4 and found iPod's sound to be inferior to stock CD-changer. Has anybody compared the iPod sound to the CD sound on stock stereo? Is there an audible difference between the two? The adapter is quite pricey so I don't want to be in for another unpleasant surprise.

Thanks in advance for your help. Cheers,

Andrei

this module is not yet out in the UK... queried Alpine and they reckon about 2/3 months before it will be available here. RRP around £600.... RRS First Edition S/C, Vesuvius Orange, Rear Entertainment, Alpine TUE-T200DV, Stormer Alloys. (+ 19" MTR's for playing in the snow!)

A couple of folks have had it installed.... it's all a bit disappointing really. There's not much on the market right now that integrates very well with the LR audio system (at least without spending megabucks on a custom system).

Thanks. Dissappointing in which respect: convenience of use or sound quality? Cheers,

Andrei

I think sound quality has been fine - more the functional side of it.
