United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
transmission clunk

I've been getting increasingly concerned (unlike my dealer) about a transmission clunk when taking up drive after slowing down (but not stopping). I looked up some info already about this and on the site - referred to similar issue following a 'california stop' and a gearbox software upgrade. However it does not seem to have made a difference and the dealer just does not seem interested in solving it.

I've had plenty of RR's in the past so I'm familiar with what to expect but I can't live with this any longer, it just makes the car feel agricultural.

Anyone got any suggestions or had any experience of this? I've only tried one other and it did not make the same noise so I'm pretty sure it should not do it, but I'm not sure.

Try a different dealer first, see what they say about the noise.

Alternatively, telephone Land Rover Assistance and tell them you don't think it is safe to drive. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

Think you may be right, time to let LR deal with this one. Concerns me that every time it shunts the transmission its just putting additional wear into the diffs.

So far the whole LR experience with this Dealer/Car is making me nervous.

You'd have to expect the odd problem or two with yours VA, given you drive it into things, underwater etc on a regular basis Whistle

I had what would appear to be something similar to this when I had both my V8 Disco1 and my TD5 Disco2 and it was put down to a small amount of wear in the UJ's in the drive train. When the engine had been idling or with a low power and then the gas pedal was pressed the load would come back on the drive and the dull clunk was all the however many UJ's there were all getting the load on them at once. Both cars were automatics as well. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
