Independent servicing

Evening chaps,

My RRS will soon need another service (24k , second service).

The first one was done at LR in Hanley , stoke , prior to my delivery.
I have a dilemma.

In my previous experience of all LR dealers in the midlands area I have had bad experiences at most of them.
Work overcharged for , charged for and not done, parts charged for and not changed , damage , mystery mileage..the list goes on.

I know we should try and support the dealers but I don't know if my health will stand another episode!

What I want to know is..Do any af our fine community use independent garages for servicing ?
What are the warranty implications?
What are the trade in value implications?

Has anyone used JE for servicing?

I would trust JE , they don't appear to be the sort of outfit to engage in any of the above practices.

Please swamp me with useful feedback.

Thanks,

IMHO opinion as long as the parts used are LR official parts then there shouldn't be an issue with warranty. I may however be wrong. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

You are well within your rights to use an independant garage for your servicing requirements but check first that they will be using genuine Land Rover parts during your service. It could later effect your warranty if non Land Rover parts are used and these are found to be the cause of the warranty claim. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. I've used JE on umpteen occasions, including for servicing and would have no hesitation recommending them.
I'm pretty certain they only use genuine LR parts, but they would certainly ask you if there was an alternative available.

My new TDV8 will be going there very soon to have a new JE exhaust fitted Thumbs Up

In my experience (not necessarily of LRs, but other brands) a lot of dealers can make bones about the fact your service history isn't stamped by a franchised dealer come chopping-in time. If you're planning on keeping the car past the end of the warranty, this is probably less of an issue for you though. As others have said, independents are perfectly capable of servicing these cars as long as they have the right kit, use the correct OEM parts etc. It'll be a whole load cheaper too...

Under current EU law, it is illegal for a dealer or manufacturer to discriminate against a car that hasn't been serviced at a franchised dealer, provided it has been serviced fully in accordance with the manufacturer's guidlines.

yes Paul , that was my understanding too.

Possible monopoly and all that.

However.
One of Kam's mates has a nearly new mercedes....broke down.....phoned merc for recovery.....
"you've missed a service sir.."
"no I havent I had it done within mileage by a merc specialist in brum"

Sorry sir , we won't recover you.

Luckily he was in the AA but that's not the point.

Why does the whole industry insist we suckle at the dealers teat?

Indeed - car dealers aren't in the business of hearing people quote EU law at them however right that may be and Kam's mate's experience is exactly what I'm talking about. It all gets very murky anyhow - how does the mfr or the dealer know that the independent has indeed serviced in accordance with the mfr's guidelines?

The onus would be on the dealer/manufacturer to prove that it hadn't been done in accordance with their guidlines, not the other way round.

As for Kam's mate's experience, I would be inclined to get my solicitor to send them a letter to remind them of the law.
