Most of the 4x4 specialists have their own IDS now, give them a call its a quick and simple job.
I use a Dell or PB laptop with the software loaded on as do all others now.
It will be cheaper than a dealer to reset it. You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

You can try this reset procedure detailed on the Workshop Manual, although I could not get it to work on my 2006 Sport... I suspect the feature may be disabled on some markets:

I believe that it is an EU requirement for any old place to be able to reset the service indicators... Driven by legislative protection from having to use the dealer to maintain one's warranty (so long as the car is properly serviced)...

So there should be a way to reset it without a gadget...

No tosh Paul,, truth in what you are saying,
The "customer" can take "his" vehicle to any "competent" garage, and have it serviced etc, and maintain the manufacturer's warranty !! So their should be a way, of manually resetting the service indicator ??

Thanks umbertob, will give your suggestion a try Idea

On my MG you can reset the service indicator by shorting pins 1 and 8 on the OBD socket, it went in a sequence of three, short 1 and 2 would be oil service and the third would be for a full service, then it would cycle around again. Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

At the moment it is market specific and in the UK its IDS or Autologic only
The service can be carried out by a non franchised dealer as long as they are VAT registered and they use genuine parts on the service and stamp the service book.
That's the European block exemption rules anyway,
