No you can't legally, as your RRS was built after January 1st 1973. Doesn't stop people doing it though Sad Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Stornoway Grey

I was 'done' for this some years ago. Given a choice: a) go to court and be fined £400 penalty and have to put the correct plates on, or b) take a defective vehicle ticket and get an MOT station to sign the ticket to say the 'defect' had been corrected and present it within 10 days, also on the understanding if the same officer stopped me again, their would be no option offered - it would go to court. I took the latter, sold the registration and promptly purchased another registration and ..........................
you guessed ............. put black and silver plates back on the car. Never had a problem since. Gone - 2008 TDV8, Stornoway Grey, ebony, zabrano trim, TV, Tasmods, mudflaps.

I think you can have the black and silver plates if your personlised registration is pre Jan 1st 1973

But still run the risk if the letter and numbers are not correctly spaced and size

The year of the personalised plate is irrelevent no matter how old !

It is the vehicle date of 1st registration as Martin has quite rightly pointed out.

You are breaking the law by not displaying the correct colour plates.... The law will be increasingly more hot on this subject as more and more camera licence detection units are deployed.
