Like VA says at least the guy in charge of the HMRC has resigned. Top respect to him - it's about time others took his lead. That bloke out of Captain Scarlet who masquerades as the Chancellor, for a start.

I can't even FATHOM how the Censored this happened? What are they thinking.... I'm presuming that the data on the CDs isn't easily available to whoever has the CDs though, it's not like it's going to be in a bunch of Excel spreadsheets (I hope).

If it's not one thing it's the other... this country is going to the dogs, I tell you Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I suspect they were, or an MSAccess Database S, according to everything I have heard the documents were password protected but not encripted................................
It took my Ukrainian officers about 10 minutes to crack the NETWORK passwords to the shipboard server and changed the settings of their log-in's to allow them to download files onto our network last year, I wouldn't be at all surprised if a school kid couldn't break into this lot! When I put it to the iT team in HQ they told me that it was impossible for any crew to hack into the XP based network. Yes it was "impossible" when they employed north European officers who had a clause in their terms of employment that doing anything unauthorised on the network would lead to dismissal, but for some reason they didn't include that in the terms and conditions of the Eastern Europeans and it was merely a challenge to them to hack in!
Hey I've even had to borrow their password cracking programmes to "hack" into software that the company has sent out to the ship and we have found that there are glitches in it that didn't show up when it was tested in the office, and these Ukrainians are able to fix the problem and send the "improved" version back to the office. The office certainly sat up and believed us then!

We even found that the office was using the same password for all the software they were sending out, and e-documents that were supposed to be uneditable by the ship for ISO9002 / ISM reasons! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Each application that we deploy here has to undergo quite rigorous security testing and one of our vendors recently got very upset when one of our security folks was able to compromise the security model and gain elevated priveleges very quickly. They actually took it quite personally... Rolling Eyes

It's emotive stuff, security, as with the right set of skills, you can put quite a lot of egg on other people's faces Thumbs Up
