I have a similar friend - he told me to buy the D70 for loads of technical reasons which I quickly forgot |

nature ![]() seriously though, mainly deep space photography (although I'm still on a big learning curve) plus the odd lunar pic (as Jay posted) |

Kaine, I've never seen a silver D70, I know the D40 was available in Black or Silver but didn't know the D70 was as well - Is it a Japanese import or something? 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black 2013 Evoque 5 Door Pure Tech SD4 - Orkney Grey with Panoramic Roof (Mrs E's new baby) GONE - RRS - 3.0 TDV6 HSE - Santorini (2010) GONE - RRS - 2.7 TDV6 HSE - Java Black (2007) GONE - Porsche Boxster S - 3.2 - Black ![]() |

Yep the learning curve is very steep still trying to sort out my imaging system and the skies have not been of much help this summer, From June to September I had 2 nights where I could get the scope out for about 1.5 hours in total ![]() Here in Belgium there has been a lot less cloud but the light pollution is terrible, everything is lit up here ![]() Clan Cameron |

Kaine, It may be an import but I wouldn't worry about it. Nikon usually have a worldwide warranty so doesn't really matter where it came from.

Nice scope ![]() Here in Belgium I have a LX10 8"UHTC but it is not a patch on the LX200R. I have only a small patch of sky I can view at home so I have to go about 10km to find an open space with darkish skies. That's where the 8" comes in as it is a lot easier to transport around. In Wick during the winter, when it is dark for about 18 hours, I can step out the door and just stop and stare at the stars, the milkyway is like a river, it can be awe inspiring Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh Clan Cameron |

your spot on - you need a motorised/computerised mount and a autoguide or tracking system - sometimes the autoguiding/tracking is a built in function however in some cases (like for mine) you control the scope using a separate autoguider |
