You need to be very careful Cliff, there are 2 sorts of childminders, one that does it for cash and says they are registered when they are not, and the one,s that are registrered correctly. My wife is one of the second type. This lady may well be one of the official type also and I am not suggesting any different. They are appointed and goverened by Social Services and have to be on the current register, and they are also now inspected on a regular basis by both Social Services and Offstead. There are clear guide lines to the way they operate. They also have to attend regular courses of first aid and all sorts of things to do with HSE. I would suggest you refuse to carry on - as you said earlier until a safer option can be arranged.  You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.

Wasn't going to comment on this, but having read through it (the useful stuff anyway) again - I'm surprised at the childminder to be honest. What is she doing continuing her childminding whilst her house is undergoing such disruptive work? And what are the parents of the kids doing sending them? The nursery where SJ1 and SJ2 go was recently being redecorated and various areas were closed while the work took place. It meant the kids had to go and join another class for a couple of days, but there was never any question of putting the kids into an area where they might come to some harm.....

Exactly S. That is the guide lines that are given and they are not given an official registration number until they are aware of this. They even check if any family members at the house have a criminal record of any type, or any mental problems, so I just got Envoy to fiddle it for me. No as I say to be fair she is a very good chilminder her offsted is always very good.
I agree that the situation is not good, mainly this is caused by the builder but yes it is at the point where she will have to sort something out for the children. their safety has never been comprimised I can assure you.

It doesn't matter how good she is at the job, and no disrespect to her but the Offstead and Social Service rules by which she has to abide by clearly state that she is not allowed the children in the house while you carry out any work at all. The kitchen especially because of the preparing food issue etc. The answer is you cancel the kids or take them elsewhere for care whilst the work is carried out.

I have cancelled my parents visit at the weekend (who we have not seen for 6 months) and will go and do the job then

Just read through again and spotted this, I actually went to a job where a man had fitted his own gas fire He said he was a maintainance man for some army barracks.
He called me in because he had low pressure caused by kinking over a bit of the pipe
I also found 3 leaks, I had to demonstrate again with detecting fluid before he would believe me as he said he had tested everything with a match, twice
