Any harm to ask why the G4’s are petrol powered, rather then diesel ??

Surely diesel while being more economical for the endurance on a G4 event would also be more “torquey” & therefore more suitable for an off road event.

The LR Diesels have problems running on high sulphur diesel - it's one reason why they don't yet sell them in the USA. So they tend to run petrol engined cars. There is also the fact that LR can sell every TDv6 they can build and the petrol engined models take up build slots for cars that they can shift easily 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The other reason that LR don't sell diesels in the USA(and some other markets like Singapore/Hong Kong) is that there is this weird idea that nobody wants a smelly noisey truck engine in a luxury SUV...................... but what do the marketing men at LR know - diddlysquat, because those few Americans that have driven the TDV engined cars want them over there, now! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

In my Stonefield I had an American GM 6.2 V8 Diesel, not pretty but it was a good engine and quite revy for a non turbo with a red line at 4500rpm and would take the 5ton truck up to 90mph without a problem. It was the same engine as fitted to the first of the Humvees, later they upgraded the engine to 6.5l with a turbo.

Friend of mine has a Land Rover 101 Foward Control that he took the gas coverted V8 engine out of and replaced it with one of those 6.5l GM diesels - once the brick on wheels was up and running it didn't half scare the wits out of sports car drivers...................................
