Spotted this on a blog

Spotted this on a blog about the sale of LR and Jag by Ford.

Quote:
According to friends who work for Jaguar, Ford were working on a unified design which was to have been the basis for the next Ford Mondeo & Galaxy, Jaguar S-Type, Land Rover Discovery and Volvo S40 and this work is quite advanced. There were to be common chassis components, drive trains, etc with different body shells.

If the different companies are broken away from Ford, where do they stand with regards future designs or do they have to start again from scratch, thereby putting back any new products maybe 2 to 3 years?

Why would they be working on the "next Mondeo", the latest version is only just about to come to the market, unless that is the one he means, in which case why would D3 (and hence RRS) be getting a new floor pan after only 3-4 years? Also it then implies that the next S type Jag is going to somewhat smaller than the current one as it's the X type that is based on the Mondeo/ Lincoln platform. Freelander2 is based on the next Focus platform and so will the next Volvo S/V50 and the XC50 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

EUCD (Euro seg C/D) is the platform which consists of New Mondeo/Galaxy (Ford) LR2 (LR) S80, V70, XC70 and a whole host of other new Volvo's
RRS and Disco3 have thier own shared platform, S type was based on Lincoln, X type was based on old Mondeo
XJ and FFRR own platforms

The I6 petrol in the Freeloader is a Volvo unit the I4 diesel is a Ford unit
