Bit of an old thread resurrection going on here……….

But I thought it was worth it, as only last week I’ve finally managed to complete my quest, to solve the puzzle of what goes in all those blank openings in the foam insert, under the boot floor.

The warning triangle, spare bulb kit, tow hook storage along with the centre square opening for a first aid kit, where I have my tow strap stored, was easy enough to figure.

But the right hand slot, which looked very much like it was for a bottle jack, puzzled me for a while, so I did a bit of detective work.

It turns out that on the coil sprung, five seat D3, there is a stowage area like we have in the RRS, with the very same foam insert. (On the seven seat D3, this space is taken up by the 6th & 7th seats when they are folded down)

Being coil sprung, rather than having air suspension, this vehicle is supplied with a bottle jack, instead of a scissors jack. This bottle jack will not lift an air suspension equipped D3 or RRS, so therefore the jack is never supplied with these vehicles. But as the foam insert is common to both vehicles, we get left with a vacant space

For the sake of completing the tool tray I sourced & got the bottle jack, along with it’s associated handles. I also thought that while the bottle jack will not lift my RRS, it would however be handy if I needed to change a wheel on a trailer I was towing.

Below I’ve linked to a picture in my gallery, of the completed tool tray, which I’ve tagged as best as I could the various bits ‘n’ bobs that go in the various slots.

I hope this goes some way to solving the mystery over the empty slots !!!

Nice work! Thumbs Up

FWIW, the aussie model is missing all the euro stuff - warning traingle, first aid kit and bulbs. Also the locking wheel nuts are not included as standard down under, and for those with the option it has a two piece tow bar setup as the one shown in Ruperts picture doesn't meet local regulations!

Where the bottle jack is there is a folded up wallet of some sort and I still cannot work out what it is used for!?

Well I was missing the warning triangle & bulb kit too, they had to be ordered up from the accessories catalogue.

Same would apply to the First Aid Kit too, although I’ve stuffed the tow strap in the place reserved for the First Aid Kit instead.

But we do get the locking wheel nuts as standard.

The slot for the tow bar, is shaped to take a variety of tow bars. It says in my owners handbook that in the Australian market the tow hook is different, but still stows in the same place.

Not sure what the tow hook setup is over in the U.S. though.
