Inner door lock handle restricted movement

My NSR inner door lock tab has started to not move fully when you lock/unlock the car. If I lock the car I can see the tab goes flush with the handle and all is as intended. When I unlock the car the tab only moves outwards a little, enough that pulling the inner door handle won't open the door. A little tweak and you can open the door. The door can be opened from the outside no problem.

Anyone had this before. There's only the 2 of us so the rear doors are not used that much, but it's become apparent now.

Steve. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

As above….
You need to change the door lock module … otherwise one day you think you have locked your car but that module will not have pulled the locking mechanism and thus that door will remain unlocked and easy for anyone to enter your car..
Really really common fault.. I’ve replaced 3 of the 4 on our car and one of them twice..

The locking module is effectively the door lock mechanism but where it gets complicated is that the mechanism is driven by two scalextrix size electric motors which start to fail over time.. the end up not strong enough to close the levers.. hence your problem…
They are relatively simple but fiddly to change..

Just looked at a video on removing the door cards. You are saying its the lock unit thats failing rather than the electronic module....is that right?
You also imply that you can replace /repair the motors yes/no.

Any idea why the previous owner bought two of the cables linking the lock to the handle.

Have just pm’d you..
Yes it’s the door lock.. I don’t bother changing the motors as it gets fiddly.. I just replace them complete…

The reason the previous owner bought new cables is that he probably snapped the small white retaining clips by just pulling them off.. they have small white tongues which clip into place on the door lock

Using a small pick you need to carefully release them then lift the cable away rather than just pulling them and breaking the clips..

Both of my rear latches need to be replaced as well. The hardest part is probably getting the window regulator out of the door. After that it’s not too bad. Connecting the cables is a fun exercise in dexterity. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

having had a lot of experience with Jaguar door locks eventually replacing the whole thing with a new Chinese system for £20 I just raise this question.
The only thing connecting the door lock to the opening lever is the cable so if the lever bit is not working right then is it not a cable problem ...stretched maybe or are you saying the motors in the locks are not pulling on the cable sufficiently strong enough? Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

Think more as the lock lever is just an indicator. The mechanism is the latch. If the mechanism isn’t working correctly then the indicator won’t show correctly. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory
