yeah that is optics.

I may just goto the display though?

The amp is sunk into the floor under the seat, can be seen from the rear.

On the headunit connector, where there loads of green wires? if yes they are speaker wires, so no amp under seat

yeah I think there was loads of wires, I lifted the drivers seat up and forward and all I could see under there is an air vent pointing to the back seats. Could it be under that air vent?

I had a response back from 2connect and yes they do harnesses for systems with optics and without and can supply them for your run of the mill stereos ie pioneer, sony, etc etc and they can supply for the chinese market android units. They also said that I will loose the satnav and 4x4 info which im not bothered about anyway, Its just finding a double din unit that will fit into the hole as its a funny shape as in wont take a standard double din box shaped stereo. will also need a faceplate as original stereo is bigger than a standard double din and is 255x125mm so considerably bigger than the standard 178x100mm. 2008 RRS 2.7TD in Stornoway grey, black leather and 22 inch alloys

I know you're not bothered about the satnav but the next owner might be! I did a similar installation of a Pioneer double din head unit plus extra amp and kept the satnav and steering wheel controls by using one of the site sponsors IncarTech.
They were really helpful before and during installation so I would recommend them as its not as simple as taking one out and putting another one in with these beasties.
Highly recommend them as they will give you loads of advice over the phone and may even be cheaper! 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue
2005 4.2L Supercharged Java Black - gone but was my first love.

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Great Thumbs Up

The head unit I fitted was a Pioneer AVH5000DAB with bluetooth and Apple CarPlay.

To be honest I'm not an ICE freak so didn't have a preference other than I wanted Apple Car Play and the guys at InCar Tech gave me a good price on it.

They also provide a nice surround that takes up any gaps from the old unit as you say, it's bigger than standard.

Looking forward to seeing how your install goes. You may also need another amp which I fitted under the rear seat drivers side.

Also, make sure you disconnect the battery before doing anything and put the car in N before disconnecting the battery as you will need to remove the central consul and gear lever will need to be in N !

Cool thanks for that, I'm in talks with various companies concerning head units, harnesses, steering wheel controls and satnav/4x4 screen.

It's getting them all to work together to get me something that will work.

I'm hoping It worked out to my benefit having the "basic" S model as there's no amp with fibre optics

OK so I've bit the bullet and ordered a unit from Xtrons who I have used before and produce good android double din units.

I been message back and forth with Connect2 and they are adamant that my system is a fibre optic one, I even had to send them a picture of the original stereo facia and they still say that the unit I have from experience is a fibre optic one.

I definately don't have an amp under the drivers seat.

Here is a pic of the cables in the back of the unit, it looks wired speakers to me, what do you think? Bit odd though where those two fibre optic cables go.

yours maybe a bit of an odd car.

I guess it's got optional extra Sat Nav.

So it has fibre optic orange to provide/receive the display above with data,

However the optic is not connected to an amp.

The speaker wires are on the head unit with green wires.

So it good news, you can easily connect to the speakers.

Keeping the SatNav/4x4 display will be as difficult as normal.

They will probably send you the wrong kit.

yeah cheers andy, they did tell me I will loose satnav but that's fine as the xtrons unit has satnav and when I come to sell the car I will give the original stereo with it.

Im still waiting to hear back from incartec as scrumpy says he got to keep his satnav.

so do i order a kit for cars without optics or with? as i see there are kits on ebay for both and come with a facia Im thinking kit for ones without optics and just leave those two optic cables loose 2008 RRS 2.7TD in Stornoway grey, black leather and 22 inch alloys
