Chip Tuning RRS TDV6

Hi all i'm new here and i want same advice please.

i have purchase a RRS tdv6 just before Xmas from a London dealer and i didn't find then very professional at all and what they promess me before the purchase never been done and i ben having a few problems with the car and i have reported to them and they supost to pick up the car last Thurday and they never turn up and i can't believe the amount of money that we pay for this cars and we don't get the right service from the dealers.i will tell you more about soon and i may even say the name of the dealer Evil or Very Mad

anyway i want to chip tuning the RRS TDV6 and i have been talking to a few dealers and they all tell me diferente things, but the most impressed one was superchips they say that they cover the engine warranty that LAND ROVER will not cover in case they find out that the car been modified and has gone wrong, but seen in this foroum also there 2 dealers that also do chip tuning can TC tell me please what will be after chip tuning on the 0 to 60 mph and if the softwere gets removed when we service by Land Rover if you can put it back to the car at no extra charges and if there is how much is it?

thank you

Hi,

Check out the forum sponsors - JE Engineering and Turbochip - loads of members on this forum have used them and are delighted with the results.

On the dealer issue - just name them Wink

Hi Faria. Re-chipping shouldn't affect your warranty unless something happens to the engine for which the remap is directly attributable. Even then, they've got know about, or find the remap to apportion blame.

There's loads of different specialists out there offering this procedure and I'm sure you'll have a whole host of advice and opinion from other RRSport forum members. Mine has a "Twisted Performance" remap, which, together with a K&N air filter and sports exhaust, has lifted the car to 265bhp. Indeed, it got wiped during a recent software upgrade and the difference in before-and-after performance was dramatic. Twisted Performance (Charlie 07734 516580) travels nationally and will happily reinstate free of charge. Some others will charge for this work, obviously check before purchasing.

There's also at least two different methods available; some remove the ECU, others install through the on-board diagnostics socket. I'm no expert so I'll leave that to the subsquent posts to explain.

All I can say is it significantly improves performance and economy and is certainly worth having done. Thumbs Up

Hi! Anyone had any experience with this chip?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Range-Rover-TD6-Spor...dZViewItem

Also does anyone know how much turbochips, twisted performance and jj's charge to chip a RRS 2.7TDV?

Are all these mods very similar in performance terms? (Do they actually make the car more economical as well as increasing performance?)

Thanks!

Hi Voyager. Be careful with the first ebay option, too cheap, probably just over-fuels. There's many experts on this Forum who will advise you about proper remaps and ECU upgrades. Remaps/rechipping is normally pretty expensive, circa £500 upwards. You're paying for the research, expertise and equipment. Does it make a difference.., you bet! The engine becomes more efficient and smoother, giving better like-for-like economy (15%) and improving overall acceleration. However, most people use the additional available power and therefore dont see many benefits in fuel economy. It's really a case of one or the other.., you cant have your cake AND eat it, I'm afraid!

But you should still go for it! Thumbs Up

The device in the eBay link is probably just a 2p resistor in a box which fools the ECU into overfuelling, and not in any kind of calculated way...

They claim it isn't, but it can't be doing much for £60.. Like this site? Buy some RRSPORT goodies to show your support!

Most 'plug-in' box manufacturers use a simple resistor type device that plugs in to the common rail pressure control signal.....the 'better' plug in boxes also take a control signal from the injection control module so that they only raise fuel pressure in relation to rpm/injector control signal.

As Martin said be wary of ebay but if you 'take the plunge' lets us all know who good or bad the product is Smile Chips with everything

Hi Voyager pretty much as Martin said, you only get what you pay for, my remap cost £411. i think, and i personally think its worth every penny, i have noticed a big saving in fuel consumption, and the car is much sharper, all the companies that offer this service are pretty much the same and reading reports on here you wont go far wrong by using one of the sponsors some of my Previous cars

Thanks for all the info guys, I will be taking delivery of my RRS HSE in April and will be considering these options after a few thousand miles as previous posts suggest "running in" the engine before chipping. I can't understand why the techs @ Land Rover don't just eek the max economy/performance from their own engines for the standard car if such re-mapping is available without adversleyaffecting the engine.

Also Envoy, apart from obvious warranty issues and preventing damage to the engine from excessive full power ouput, I've also been told there's also an EU emmisions element involved (woking to lowest common denominator)? Would make sense for LR, "one size fits all" euro settings? Trouble with that principle is, if correct, it means we're all pegged to nutty Swiss low levels? I could be wrong, I'm sure somebody will humiliate me if I am??? Laughing

The dealer did a serial programme upgrade for me which did make a big difference. £700.
