Dreaded 'Restricted Performance'

Hi Guys

I am really hoping that someone might be able to advise me on this as I am losing the will to live with this car

I have a 2011 RRS 3.0TD

About 4 weeks ago when i was driving home it suddenly came up with the warning 'Restricted Performance' and of course was driving in limp mode. I took the car to a local garage who diagnosed that it has splits in BOTH inlet manifolds and that it alos needed a new water pump which became apparent when they stripped it down. So after 2 and a half weeks being fixed and £2.4k later I picked it up after being told it was running well.

Third time i use it i get the error message again so stopped turned the engine off and waited 5 mins and it ran fine again. Then last night had to drive to Essex (about 90 miles) and drover perfectly all the way there. then when i left about an hour later after only 7 or 8 miles the warning came on again. Took it back to the garage and the use diagnostic machine bu they tell me there are no error codes.

So after £700 on brakes 4 new tyres and now £2.4k on this and still playing up I am kind of regretting buying this car.

Please any help greatly appreciated

Thanks guys

I'd get yourself your own diag tool to save hassle. Could it be egr valve? Also I'd check for misfires, sometimes they set the reduced performance off but no codes. Also what diag tool are they using?

Hi

mgrover, thanks for your reply. Where would i get the diag tool from? If it was the EGR valve would that show a code?

I honestly dont know what tool they are using on it.

As i am not very up on these cars this is why i thought i would ask those who know.

So would the egr cause a misfire then?

Thanks

So if you wanna splash out there's the gap iid tool, it's the best one aside from actual dealer software. But it costs around £400. I purchased just a crappy £20 dongle of amazon at first. It showed enough.

Am not sure if an egr would cause a misfire but they are known to cause issues.

If you don't wanna deal with it and take it to a garage you can check if they have an jlr Ids sdd tool. That's what the main dealer uses but it costs an arm and a leg there at around £160 an hour so maybe find a third party.

Just had my inlet manifold done and my cheap code reader didn't pull up the fault. The garage had to look into historic codes to find it. Mine wouldn't let me check those

Worth checking the MAP sensor's

Mine also done restricted performance on the MAP before the air filter.

Diagnosed by Swapping it over with the one directly after the air filter and the error followed it.
