Remap Options

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to get my RRS remapped and I'm pretty sure it'll be Alive Tuning who do it (dependant on responses recieved here).

I don't just want a stright remap done, I want two maps. I want i more sedate eco friendly map to be active when it's in standard drive and then I want the snarling b%lls out beast map for when I kick the stick over into sport/manual mode.

I've called Alive and spoken to a chap there called Alex and he doesn't believe that it's possible, they do a module so I can store one map and upload another to over write it but thats hardly an ideal situation, I want it on a click of a switch so to speak.

Now I'm pretty sure that this isn't possible as I can't be the first person to have thought about doing it this way, but I thought I would cast it out into the ether and see what comes back. Bow down

My Discovery has a Stage 2 map by Alive

Just short of 230bhp. Returns 38+mpg on a run

Why would you want 2 maps Wink

Most of the time i chug around and would prefer MPG gains over HP for everyday use, but every once in awhile I'll see a nice stretch of road or simply want to got WOT to scare the wife.

a normal Stage 1 remap will give you better consumption if you don't drive it like a hooligan.

At least that's my experience with my 6 years using the BAS remap on my Puma. Thumbs Up --

Your MPG is directly related to the position of your right foot Wink

Spain

Disco_Mikey is 100% correct
So your only option is a remap for boy racer stuff Rolling with laughter in a 4X4 Whistle
And a bit of 3x2 under the throttle pedal for MPG In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

DM is totally correct. A decent map will give economy if driven gently and performance if driven hard.

Map switching is usually done for different fuel types outside of the range of knock detectino, so you can flip your rally car back onto pump gas if you have run out of race fuel and need to throw in a jerry can of super, or if you have got it mapped for ethanol but want to run petrol. If you are a self-mapper there are some advantages to switchable maps, particuarly if you are mapping on the road, you can flick it back onto a safe map if the logs look scary. But again, not relevant to a commercial map on a sport.

I appreciate that a re-map will most likely give an increase in mpg when driven sedately, however the throttle response is quite sharp. If you have a more balanced/stock map you don't have to worry about blipping the throttle while on rough/wet roads and nailing yourself to the back of your seat or spinning out.

Hence why in an ideal world I would like to be able to switch between the two 'moods' making the car calm when I want it to be and rough when I fancy blowing the cobwebs out.

As a side note it's slightly annoying the number of people implying I'm a boy racer, other forum members tout about how they've had their tdv6 re-mapped and 'have gained an addition 400hp and now average 56mpg and can leave Subaru's for dead while hitting the 130mph speed limiter' are all lauded over and other members then chirp up with how 'they're gonna get theirs done too, Moar POWA!!' yet I mention getting the 4.2 re-mapped (which arguably stands to get the best benefit from a re-map) providing reasons why and EVEN stating I would rather have an increase in MPG over HP and I'm a boy racer with a 4x4 that would be better suited to "a BMW or Astra"
Range Rover built the Sport to be exactly what the name suggests.. sporty with th 4.2 being the (once) top of the line in go fast 4x4's and continue this trend with the SVR.
I've not lowered mine, I've not made everything black and chrome, I've not blacked out the windows, I've not put a HST kit on it or bought Khan wheels nor have I ever mentioned or thought about doing any of those tacky 'mods', so maybe rather than making snide remarks can we maybe accept that not everyone who owns a 4.2 is a chav/boy racer ?

haha, relax dude, no one's saying you're a chav/boy racer, etc.

I mean, I drive my Puma like it stole it, but even then the fuel consumption is better than the original map. --

I think you might be overreacting a little, I assumed the comment about buying a BMW was for the eco mode which adjusts map and throttle angle, not about calling you a chav! Everyone else was just explaining why you generally dont need two maps, and thus theyre not normally offered (Plus offering it on a stock ecu generally involves flashing custom code into the ECU).

Personally I would love a supercharged sport and seriously considered going to look at this one, but even with my relaxed approach to fuel consumption, I couldn't justify MPG in the teens: http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic46088.html

England

quite a fair question to be fair:

normal: Jeremy Corbyn
Sport mode: Jeremy Clarkson

Although from what people above are saying, is that if you drive the remapped car like MRs Daisy, then you get all the benefits of smoother response and more MPG, then if you want to ag it then just get a heavier foot
